Hi all. I'm a regular hill player and am kitting up as a tommy for this one. I'm one of those guys who likes to get the right kit so I will be splashing out on WW1 battledress and webbing.

Thanks yith for those links. However im still unsure about where to get the best stuff from. I notced that the khaki devil is slightly more expensive than SOF for the battledress. Does anyone think the quality of the reproduction is a factor here?

Also I found the best price for a whole set of 1908 webbing on replicators for £113! Seems almost too good to be true, anyone know if these guys are reputable?

Really looking forward to this! Let me know when the trenches are getting dug Warren, will lend a hand if i'm off work.

For WWI you don't want battledress so SoF are no use at all. You want Service Dress. The main differences from battledress being:

1) The jacket has a "skirt" with two pockets like a German WWII one.
2) The buttons are shiney brass GS ones
3) The trousers are tapered rather than baggy and have no field dressing pocket or map pocket
There are of course loads of other differences, but those are the most noticeable.

As for BD (remember that's for WWII only), I've seen the Khaki Devil BD and to be honest for airsoft I think I'd go with SoF as the serge seems thicker and more rugged.

No, Replicaters will be shit for this. Don't risk it. If you want 1908 webbing then the cheapest good stuff I've found is schipperfabrik.

But also check out WPG and lawrence ordnance.

Note I have not decided myself which 1908 webbing to finally get. I have 1914 pattern that I made myself and so have delayed that. Opinions on which is the best seem to vary.
As for the SD, my stuff is from Dickie Knight of Khaki on Campaign. It's made to measure and will take several months to arrive. There is no online ordering system, if you want to deal with him then it's by email.

Oops, looks like I stepped into it there. Didn't realise you make a distinction between "battle and "service" dress. I was meaning the 1902 tunic.

Interesting that you recommended SOF for the WW2 stuff so im hoping their service dress will be good too. Hopefully they will taylor to an extent as im 6ft 3 and dont want to order extra large or it'll be far too baggy!

Thanks for the advice on the webbing. I have to say im impressed with your leather stuff. SOF also do the repro webbing now but will compare with your suggestions.

Heh, I just looked and I didn't realise that SOF now do WWI stuff! They have confusingly put it under the WWII section. gah!

It's quite likely they are just reselling other manufacturers items, quite possibly WPG. Though the boots they're selling look a lot better than the WPG ones!

I have no idea on the quality of any of it... though the photos look ok.

I have considered it, but it takes rather a lot of time to make to be honest. Time I just don't have. Plus I doubt I could do it any cheaper than the current manufacturers.

If I ever do get the time then it could be a chance to make some money, but it wouldn't be cheap!

Another sticking point is that I don't have a source for the snake buckle on the belt.
