pssst.... saving private ryan aint real ;) As far as I can see there aren't any in the film, and they may have been introduced in large numbers during autumn '44, however they were issued in early '43,.... and the war did actually happen before D-Day, hate to break it to all of those BOB and SPR worshipers!

Perhaps it was BOB I saw M3's in then. The BOB series isn't even entirely accurate to the book its based on anyway and I won't mention the plot in SPR . . . . . .

Ya can't beat a bit of SPR, technically accurate or not you won't get a better look at what it might/would've been like...except maybe a bit of BoB and actually everything that happens in the series is in the book. They took stuff out not put fictional stuff in...the only thing might be that occasionally a different person filled in for Forest Guth, who was written out, despite being a heavily drawn on individual within Easy Company.

Yeah im not sure why Forest was excluded from the series. Its a shame because he was, like spiers said i very well like person within Easy.

To be fair there is only *one* film that accurately depicts allied airborne in wwii and that's 'theirs is the glory'.

Why?

Because every man in it is not an actor but a veteran, everything done and said is what they said and it was filmed in 46 .

A cracking film that should be watched by *every* ww2 enthusiast who wants to understand the period and the men regardless of which unit they personally portray.

Unlike SPR and BoB they blow up *real* tigers and panthers in the film, its also pretty propaganda free seeing as the war was already over, it focus's more on the fact that the guys were 'just ordninary men'.

Honestly well worth tracking down. A bit 'wooden' in places as they were soldiers not actors but you'll probably not see anything more 'real' again.

It was through this film we found out brit airborne wore scrim scarves as bandannas over the red beret to make it less obvious.

I'd imagine with a bit of digging there must be something similar done in the US seeing as the Brit one has a US voice over.

I think SPR and BOB are both great, very realistic looking effects and action sequences and watch them quite frequently to be honest. As with many books made into films/TV series one or two of the minor incidents which happen in the BOB book are moved into other "chapters" - nothing major. I've read the book twice now, a really good read.
