Yep, works a treat.

Combine it with a fire with a heat reflector built from logs and you'll be fine; although fires aren't allowed! ;)

Well the fires question is not so much they are not allowed - but if you don't want to give away your position they are not advisable.
Now a good tip is - If sleeping in a scrape or trench or foxhole - Dig a hole in the bottom of the scrape about 1 foot deep and as wide as the hole. Line the bottom of the hole with straw or bracken etc. Put a poncho or zelt across the top for a roof and wrap yourself in your blanket - The cold air drops into the hole and the body heat you generate remains around you - This was found to work at Ashby in the month of January when tried for the first time. Being below ground means you are a degree or two warmer anyway........ Little survival tips will be made plain to folks. Daft as it sounds it can be fun trying it and immensly satisfying to succeed. This wood is deciduous so won't be dark and gloomy - There is good cover and wind breaks - They will be marked as we intend to map the wood and produce a very detailed set of maps.

Hi PD, just looking at your weapons regs. One thing you may need to fudge into it somewhere is that high powered bolt actions will usually have a minimum engagement range (20m at most games). This means that all players with bolt actions will also need a sidearm, in case they come across opposition inside that range.

You've also not listed any acceptable sidearms for the Brit or german sides?

Thanks mate. We are wrioting the FPS/Engagement Rules at the mo - Largely ripped from CiA and using the DBAC rule heavily - 8mm will be allowed too. Pistols are mentioned - 1911 & HP as well as revolvers for Allies and P08.P38,C96 and HP for Jairmans.

Mind it shows people are switched on and reading

Don't forget to adjust your fps limits accordingly for the heavier 8mm rounds. :good:

Believe it or not the soviet army never issued sleeping bags to soldiers on the whole until the mid 90s (post soviet era), before then the accepted way for two guys to kip was to make a bed of branches and fasten great coats together...

Then again the didnt issue spectacles either as 'young men shouldnt need glasses' ...

But back on track i think if units are rotated everyone will get some sound rest if not true sleep.

As long as drivers get enough before having to go home i cant see it being an issue.

I've always found decemeber to be pretty mild these days compared to feb and march..

the branches in the whole works

i did an OP position in norway once in -20 deg C

in our scrape we place pine branchs about a foot thick, and as long as you get saplings none thicker than 1/2 an inch, (12.7mm to the young uns) its quite comfy, your poncho over the top is a must as this keeps the frost off. also though PD will HATE this , a candle in a well sealed bivi will raise temperature by 1 or 2 degrees (just leave one end open for ventalation)

putting the candle inside a tin can with pin holes in the bottom will help with light dicipline

Yep, The candle trick really does work, used that myself two years ago on a cold weather survival course in Norway up in the mountains near Bardufoss with the RM's, still boltic but helped raise the temp though my course was in the middle of December and not enought snow on the top of the mountain to make a quincy so a Basha or two over the top of snow walls did the trick

"What, you started it!"
"We did NOT start it!"
"Yes you did, you invaded Poland..."
