Operation Lightinig: important info for PARTISANS

Postby Gadge » Fri Feb 27, 2009 12:20 pm

Hi there partisan players.

Here is important info for you to know.

Being a partisan is not simply being an add on to the allies or axis. You have your own personal and group goals. You may find yourself aiding the allies for the good of the group while simultaneously betraying an individual for your personal goal.

Each mission you will play a different character: you may be as straight as a die, or you may not be what you at first seem.

You personal ID card will tell you how to play your character and who your enemies are!

For the yugoslavians their are two main factions 'Communist Partisan' and 'Royalist Chetnick' - its important not to confuse this with axis and allied... You will support the side that best serves your goals!

The Partisans were communist in intent and aided by the allied powers (although they occasionally sold them out), the chetnicks hated the partisans and while initially were funded by the allies they eventually took patronage from the axis as well to gain supplies to wage war on the communists.

Background here:

Yugoslav People's Liberation War

From the start, the Yugoslav resistance forces consisted of two factions: the communist-led Yugoslav Partisans, and the royalist Chetniks. With the former receiving Allied recognition only at the Tehran conference (1943), after the degree of Chetnik-Axis collaboration increased greatly. The heavily pro-Serbian Chetniks were lead by Draža Mihajlović, while the pan-Yugoslav oriented Partisans were led by Josip Broz Tito.

The Partisans initiated a guerrilla campaign which was developed into the largest resistance army in occupied Western and Central Europe. The Chetniks were initially supported by the exiled royal government as well as the Allies, but soon focused increasingly on combating the Partisans, while cooperating with the occupation forces to an ever greater extent.

Gradually, the Chetniks ended up primarily fighting the Partisans[2] instead of the occupation forces, and started cooperating with the Axis in their struggle to destroy Tito's forces, receiving increasing amounts of logistical assistance

The Yugoslav Partisans were able to expel the Axis from Serbia in 1944 and the rest of Yugoslavia in 1945.

Alistair Maclean wrote a couple of books based in Yugoslavia and the odd situation with the communist partisans and royalist chetnicks, 'Force 10 from Naverone' and 'Partisans', not his best books but not bad reads.

We would also like all Partisan players to bring is possible a second coat/jacket and hat.
As you will play several different people over the course of the day it would be nice if you can alter your appearance occasionally.

To that end, don't be afraid to swap clothing with other partisans... :) That'll confuse us!

For me that might be slightly difficult at this late stage (most of my kit is at my parents house) but I will see what I can do.
