Well, I'm so bored wating for the postie to deliver my front sight assembly, I thought I'd post up a "so far" picture of my MP001 conversion.

I got lucky with my choice of outer barrel tube, my bayonet fits perfectly. To finish it, I need to fit the front sight and try to modify the bolt handle to make it rounder but then I'll be ready for Enemy at the Gates!

This is my first attempt at a custom made gun, so don't be too cruel in your comments!

Luckily, they're the mounts that were with the sight. All I did to them was to dry brush the hell out of them with some gun metal paint. I also cut the RIS sight rail in two, so the sight fits it exactly and then ground off the "excess" slots. Not having a rail over the bolt looks more "right" in my opinion. Thanks for the comment about the wood, I realised the look of the stock was paramount, so I sanded it before staining it a darker shade and then applied wood wax to bring out the grain.

Heide that looks very nice, what FPS have you got on that lovely little thing?

Not sure mate, don't have a chrono anymore. It will go through the bottom of a Stella can and leave a big dent in the top though, so it's pretty good. Once I've gotten the conversion completed, I'll be working on the accuracy and possibly adding some internal upgrades. It's already pretty accurate with .25g bb's up to about 50M but I'll be looking for better than that!

Try some 4.3's my Tanaka turned into a beast when I used them with green gas, and the bb's give out a loud thwack when you hit someone! BTW where did you get the sccope?

I have some .43's laying about I think. I'll be trying them out once I get the power upgraded. I always got very good results with previous sniper rifles using the Maruzen grand master bb's at .3g.

The scope came with the rifle, which I bought from Fandanglos at CR. It's surprisingly good as well!

Looks brilliant, Heide. Any thoughts of mass production?

To be honest Steiner, I think the cost would be prohibitive! A rough break down of what it's cost me in parts.

£70 for the stock (inc bands and upper handguard)
£75 for the donor gun & scope.
£45 (ish) for the other metal bits (cleaning rod, sights, trigger guard, etc).

On top of that, there's the sundries like the tube for the barrel, milliput, dremel cutting and sanding discs, paint, etc. If you shop around, the parts can be got for cheaper but I reckon it owes me about £220 or thereabouts, cheapest it could be done? I estimate £200. Factor in labour, and you're almosttalking the price of a used Tanaka one, at least £250.

I made this because I wanted a K98 I could use all year round and as a backup gun should my MP40 break. I might do another one for my Brother but I can't see any good in mass producing them, because of the cost and peoples' expectations when paying for something!

Well if possible I would like to fire a mag through it once your happy with it? compare it to my own k98. I've never fired a springer airsoft rifle, especially one that looks as good as your custom one.
