Another G43

So following on from my M1 Garand GBBR conversion, I decided I wanted to do a mid to later war Gebirgsjäger impression. I knew I wanted a semi-automatic weapon, the most iconic of them being the G43 (despite not that many of them being made, about 500k I think).

So I knew I wanted a G43 and not an AEG as I find them pretty dull. So I ended up with the AimTop SVD GBBR.

I did some basic designing on some free 3D design software and had the the receiver bridge/rear sight, bolt carrier and rear receiver cover 3D printed.

I didn't want to buy a repro G43 stock as I knew the dimensions would be off. So all I had to do was make a plywood stock from scratch!

And make the barrel band from aluminium tube which was cut and added to with a face plate and steel sling loop.

I finished it today.

Metal and 3D printed parts have been primed with acid etch primer, sprayed black and then grate blackened to make them look like steel.

I cocked up the handguard by having the plywood grain running in the same direction as the stock. So I painted and varnished it to look like bakelite.

I have oiled the stock like they did with the originals but might give it another coat or two just to darken it a bit more.

Cheers!

Love the top slide metal parts. Did you say you 3d printed them?

That's looking really good! I would be interested in a 3d printed top cover if you can make anymore.

Hi guys! Thanks for the feedback.

The top 3D printed parts are in PA11 polymer but are very sturdy. It's not something I'll be reproducing though as I made this as a one - off specifically to fit over the AimTop SVD receiver. It took quite a lot of fettling to fit one I got it too.

No problem, I'm probably a third of the way through in making a fibreglass mould for the same thing, I'll just carry on with that, while the mould process is time consuming , once done, copies can be knocked out in minutes.
