DAK insignia

Postby Steiner » Wed Oct 28, 2009 6:00 pm

I'm a bit confused - was there no distinction between the corps? i.e. did infantry, artillary, pionier, etc all use the same insignia? :?

AFAIK, branch of service is distinguised in the normal way
with different colour waffenfarbe on the shoulderboards.
White for infantry, red for artillery etc..
“I wanted to come to the Volga at a specific location at a specific city. By chance it carries the name of Stalin himself. So don’t think I marched there for this reason – it could carry another name – but because there is a very important goal... this goal I wanted to take – and you know – we are very modest, we have it already."
Adolf Hitler, November 1942

"Comrades, Red Army men, commanders and political workers, men and women guerrillas! It is on your perseverance, staunchness, fighting skill and readiness to discharge your duty to the country that the defeat of the German-fascist army and the liberation of the Soviet land from the Hitlerite invaders depend! We can and must clear the Soviet land of Hitlerite vermin."

Hmm... all I get in the way of s/boards from regaliaspecialist is this: Army Afrika Korps enlisted man's shoulder boards. Tan cotton boards with the universal blue grey piping for Army Afrikakorps personel. Per pair.

I don't know why regalia specialist has them listed as universal piping. As Boshman says it was the same as wool uniforms, waffenfarbe coloured according to branch.

I'll put a poll up - not that anyone has to take any notice of the results anyway - it would be nice to go as the same.

I know Lardy has white, because Panzergrenadier is a slightly later war look. I think I'll probably get both. :D

[edit] I don't seem to have the rights to post a poll up! :?

Think you'll be fine using standard field grey or green wool shoulder boards with white infantry piping - tropical shoulder boards weren't universally used in North Africa due to supply shortages.

Indeed. I'll be wearing wool shoulderboards since I can't justify buying tropical NCO ones for just one game.

as per the other post,
Green, yellow and panzer pink was the predominant colours found. White was used for flak artillery to differenciate from luftwaffe flak troops.
save the planet, go green (or save money use continetial wool ones :happyswing: )

Does that book, being quite old, take into account that there was no panzergrenadier insignia pre August 42? I'm not sure what the situation was in that regard.

I think its fair to say that it doesn't matter that much though. They used what they could get their hands on so. White, light or dark green, yellow, copper or pink will all be ok. I have a pair of green wool ones (Jager not Pzgrenadier) that I have no other use for so may join the green party if I can get hold of some tresse.

have to admit I was a bit lazy and didn't really want to type out the various differnt green, lardy you is spot on about greniders being from 42 on. infact there was quite a bit about the various diffrent greens on waffenfarbes, light green, lime green and grass green. but sun fading has confused the issue. :good:

But... I have been told that if one were, say, motorised infantry even as part of a Panzergrenadier unit, one would wear white Waffenfarbe! So I'm wearing my Feldgrau wool Infanterie s/boards. 8)
