Awww... But I look like a right div in a Mk. 2 lol.
On the other hand, a cap comforter isn't going to be offering much comfort in summer time...

Oh yes, helmets for the actual battle, as per the painting.

Yeah I suppose, but I believe myself to be something akin to a small grape with a drawing pin jabbed into it. I don't even have a gigantic head either lol. However, I have a pencil-necked mate with a tiny head and he looks pretty stylish in one... :giggle:

Don't reckon the MkII was ever designed as a fashion accessory, could be why everyone takes them off as soon as they stand down

Really?! They work wonders if you are caught in raining shrapnel though, by some accounts...

I actually like the iconic look of the British Tommy with helmet, I just happen to think I don't suit the battle bowler despite my liking it!

Spike Milligan had some very entertaining illustrations of how his pals wore both their Mark IIs and their anklets in one of his books (Hitler - my part in his downfall maybe?).

And I believe Airfix would say that they pride themselves on theirs too

That would explain the mysterious 'Sdkfz 234' armoured car, the hybrid Churchill Mk IV/VII and don't get me started on the British paras shooting their own mates as they descend.....

We could always play the Airfix multi-pose game in our commando gear, anyone got a canoe or a grappling hook? :)

Cheers

We'd also need to be entirely green and bring our plastic bases with us

 There's a hero right there! Love it.

Back on topic, there's always one, and today its me asking the silly questions (there is a pattern, and yes they're always the same  ).

What with time and money being what they are, is this a "stitch counting" event or are we able to wear reasonable "look-a-like" gear?

I'm asking from a basic plain German Heer infanterie uniform point of view and then only because you mentioned all the "gold KM buckles, breast eagles, tresse, litzen and old fashioned mitred-end shoulderboards".
And can I ask about footwear? Brown hiking boots with gaiters covering the tops ok?

Uniform Requirements

Postby BedsnHerts » Fri May 18, 2012 12:22 pm

I have amended the uniform requirements as I think they were a little misleading.
There are five different flavours of Kraut to choose from:
Kriegsmarine Infantry
Heer Infantry
Coastal Defence Force
U-Boat crew
Kriegsmarine sailors.
We want people to stick to these requirements to the best of their ability and within the constraints of their budgets. For this particular scenario a bog-standard Heer uniform with modern black walking boots is perfectly acceptable - a stitch perfect Waffen SS uniform isn't :D

TBH there is no real need for lookalike kit. If you don't have a particular item there will almost certainly be someone who will lend one. In the past we've kitted out newbies from head to toe.

I sooooo wanna do the kilt! I s'pose one would cost a fortune! I'm also happy to dorn my mk11 for battle! Uniformity does add so much. I still get goose bumps recalling 20 plus germans all in field grey piercing the smoke and cresting the ridge at sevestepol! Awesome! Totally awesome!

You can pick up an ex military kilt on ebay ,usually about £100 but you can get lucky
Or you might be able to pick up a lightweight (cheapo tourist copy) that will look ok for as little as £20 ,
look for government pattern, seaforth, black watch, gordon etc.again ebay is probably the best bet, but if you do ,don't forget the socks as well.
