Kit Requirements - UPDATE

Hi all

Just a quick polite note on this. There seems to be a perception (that is impossible to kill) that CiA adhere to strict kit restrictions and that we won't accept bookings from people whose kit is not at and acceptable level (whatever that is).

I'd just like to clarify, because we've had reports that some people seem intent on perpetuating this myth, that CiA as an organiser of WW2 airsoft games, has NEVER, EVER turned anyone away for not having the correct kit. We've always run a policy that kit can be 'lookalike' and also have run scenarios with no kit restrictions at all, beyond something that might be vaguely 'period'.

And now, a not-so-polite message to those intent on perpetuating this myth. Stop it. Right now. You are putting the future of WW2 airsoft events at risk by preventing players from booking on. If you're doing this because you don't know what CiA games are about, then fine, I suppose you are welcome to your opinions, but I would encourage you to keep this to yourself. If (a big if - because I have no idea why anyone would think about doing this) you are doing this in order to intentionally put people off CiA events, then first of all...go feck yourself...then stop doing it. Right now.

And if you as a prospective player feel shy/embarrassed (no need to feel this!) because you yourself "don't think you kit is good enough" - then there are always people with far too much kit who will be happy to lend and 'do what they can' to help you feel like you 'fit in' with everyone else's uniforms. Weapon lending too! Just ask!

Yeah, basically if you've never done this before but want to jump in, do it. You won't regret it. I've rinsed a small fortune on kit, but honestly the enjoyment I've had out of it far outweighs the cost in my eyes and truth be told, I could have gone with lookalike kit if I'd wanted and no one would have given a toss.

Far and away the most important thing is the right attitude; a love of the history and a desire to replicate the feel of an infantryman in World War Two. The people you'll meet doing this are overwhelmingly like minded, extremely generous with loaning stuff out and most importantly, welcoming. Don't let anything put you off; Merville in particular is at an amazing site and this looks to be a special game.

I'm sorry to say it, but after 7 years of doing this stuff (on and off), it has nothing to do with kit and everything to do with ego.
A potential player who asks if he can pretty much ignore the game structure and wander around the site to do his own thing, will always be politely told: "No. This is not what these events are about".
The ego player, baffled and affronted that his l33t "sniper" skillz will have to stay in the bag for this one, changes his mind about the whole gig and concocts a bogus reason for dropping out.
"CIA are stitch nazis" is so much easier to say than "CIA won't let me have my usual open-day fun at the expense of their finely crafted game plan".
Repeat it often enough and they start to believe it.
Repeat it even more and other people will believe them too.

To quote Tropic Thunder producer Les Grossman, my advice to the wreckers is this:
First, take a big step back... and literally feck your own face! I don't know what kind of bullshit power play you're trying to pull here, but this is my territory. So whatever you're thinking, you'd better think again! Otherwise I'm gonna have to head down there and I will rain down an ungodly fecking firestorm upon you! You're gonna have to call the fecking United Nations and get a fecking binding resolution to keep me from fecking destroying you. I am talking scorched-earth, motherfucker! I will massacre you! I will feck YOU UP!

That is a good a post as i've seen on the subject - spot on too!

My first WW2 game was a CIA event - my kit wasnt perfect...and no one said anything.

For anyone who is keen to 'dip a toe' in the WW2 Airsoft waters, then a CIA event is the perfect introduction :)

thats what sets the whole ww2 scene in its own league, i recently went to a nam game and expected that as well , but for most it seemed it was all about the kit :( and that kit been washed a lot in teflon :( not to mention so many attitudes, made me appreciate what we have on this side of the grass even more so :)

though what makes a outstanding game is slightly different between organisers etc but what makes it work still is the player attitude and thankfully i think players see if they have the right one or not early :)

anyway i waffled on to much hope you have a great day i really fancied this game but first sat of the month is always hard for us, can't wait to see the photos

and never known any kit issues at cia games

Incidentally on the subject of attitude, having attended War and Peace today, may I dare say that the attitude of WW2 airsofters is better and more respectful than some re-enactors?

No particular axe to grind; I was just aware that some seem to have lost sight of the fact they're playing soldier; they're not WW2 veterans.
