Part I

Postby cjw957 » Fri Jan 25, 2019 5:30 pm

well, 2018 saw part one...

21st November 1943
Operation Galvanic was on the go, American forces had managed to start their landings among Tarawa Atoll part of the Gilbert Islands, but things have changed from other landings which faced very little Japanese resistance or none at all, this time the Japanese were well trained, well supplied and dug in and ready to make the Americans pay for every inch.

our game is set on the small island of Betio, the Americans have managed to secure a beachhead, and establish a base, but progress is slow, the jungle is dense in areas and Japanese forces are dug in.

Small bands of Japanese have been raiding and ambushing the American units all day long, making progress slow.

The Japanese are ready to fight to the last man if need be and will make the Americans pay in blood for every inch they take... A couple of USMC squads report small banzai charges at them with mixed results

US losses in Tarawa were close to 6 months losses during Guadalcanal Campaign, but in Tarawa in was in 76 hours!

2019 sees Part two...

22nd November 1943

The USA forces managed to get there beachhead and establish themselves on the island, Japanese forces have been slowly pushed back to create a bit of no man's land, with both sides sending out small patrols while setting up defences of there respective bases...

With problems on the naval side of things USA supplies and reinforcements are looking scarce, and no other landings will be possible for at least 48 hours... but having lost a few supply bases so it's not much better on the Japanese side. The Japanese have one advantage they had time to build their defences and plant minefields and booby traps all over the island...

Japanese high command has given instructions no further withdrawals are to be made, the Island must not fall to the American invaders...

During the night all senior Japanese officers met at the main HQ close to VI village and were given their orders and managed to spend some time at the local shrine to pay their respects to the Emperor one last time ...
