Soviet M1911's?

sorry about the audio but look at 2:04 the commissar is holding an M1911 did they really have them for some reason or is this just an outright mistake

As far as I know the russians bought a large number of M1911s around about 1916, they were also supplied a number of M1911A1s as part of the lend lease agreement.

About 45,000 M1911s were supplied between 1915 and 1916 under the Russian Contract. IIRC this was actually larger than the number supplied to the US army.

In WW2 12,997 M1911A1s were sold to them - http://lend-lease.airforce.ru/documents ... s_1-26.pdf While I don't know for sure I'd imagine that most came as part of a vehicle's equipment.

To put this into perspective Soviet pistol production (revolvers and semi automatics) was around 1,450,000 during the war alone. Source - Red Army Handbook by Zaloga.
