Uniform is coming togther

Postby Lord Elpus » Thu Sep 22, 2016 5:08 pm

I now have the gymnasterka! Already have a pilotka, started on leather belt, ordered water bottle. Got some boots that will do the job, so it's all coming together, now there is bound to be a cockup somewhere in this exercise, but hope fully with the comrades guide it will all pass muster.
Just got a hefty credit card bill come in so spending might have to slow for a week or two, ( not much work at the moment, so tend to spend more!) might resort to alteration of some other kit, I'm quite good at this, but will need reference on items.
Can any of you guys post some pics of period gas bags, bread bags, mag holders, etc. A pointing to the right sites may help to. I have looked at quite a few, Pic's not always that clear for detail. Black and white photo's of actual items seems to be a bit sketchy.
Thanks for all the help so far :good:

Just have a look at the two equipment threads (by Special Departmant and Porta) higher up this forum. Plenty of pictures there.

Cheers

I've had a look through the threads, looking to buy, but in a couple of weeks. So no hurry, just can't find any for sale at the moment. If I don't get any I can make do with what I have, just wanted to get near as poss for basic uniform.
Other equipment, if I ain't got it, then can't wear it, but to turn up with no breeches on .....might be a bit draughty in winter! :giggle:
Have something that will make do for now, but would rather get the closer option.

Found hiki, ordered breeches, can't really afford these at the moment,( give the credit card another good hiding) but their on the way, ......here's to hoping they fit! The rest of the kit, I will just have to make do or borrow, if work picks up, I will buy more before the event.
Tokarev is gas, the cold weather may effect, as we all know so for pistol back up along with Tokarev, I have a venerable old 1911 springer, hopefully it can stay in the bag.
Ppsh 41 is up and running well. Will bring mp 40 as back up, just got to slow down rpm at the moment, the old thing is set on "hot" rpm will try 7.4 lipo to slow it.
So I think I have all bases covered........as long as the post ain't to slow with me pants!

I have now had a good search through hiki, will definitely buy some more from these guys later, I still don't know the quality, but it looks good, the research I've done and the help from you guys, they seem to have most of the period equipment. Getting into this Soviet bit.........think I need to drink vodka!

Hiki is great quality for the price you pay. I wouldn't say it's the best quality of any , but for value for money and the variety of kit they stock, they are pretty much without equal. Just don't expect regular parcel updates, in my experience you'll get nothing but "Processing" from the tracking information Hiki provides, then the parcel will appear unannounced one day like a mysterious Spanish gentleman.

Made the belt today, have taken pic's but haven't Sussed this " photo bucket" malarkey yet. Will try to get on that next week. Water bottle arrived, and I think, what was supposed to be an ammo pouch, but looks like a grenade pouch has arrived.
So the uniform assembly has moved up a bit. :good:
Even if I doesn't all get here by the battle date, I can cover the factory worker look.

Should the gas bag, have a leather strap fastener? If so metal button can go onto water bottle, and I have a strap for the bag ......somewhere!

Both are fine as they are, there were countless variations of them

The way the weather is turning, I reckon that's going to be a bit on the cold side by December, so I'm thinking along the lines of a Ushanka, did they all conform to one pattern, just different materials, or were there lots of different "types" quite hard to tell in photos.
also a winter coat might be useful, of course I don't want to spend any money, was there any "ad hoc" winter coats, such as animal skin jerkins and the like, converted blankets, or captured greatcoats, have been searching but not found much info.
