Collar tabs for SS 'Landstorm Nederland'

Postby prideofengland » Tue Sep 04, 2012 6:47 pm

Just been looking at collar tabs for 'Landstorm Nederland' for Eagles over the Rhine, does anyone know why the wolfs hook insignia comes as either vertical or horizontal versions?

The wolfs-hook rune was used in its horizontal form by Landstorm Nederland. Examples of the rune in vertical orientation can be seen used as a German heraldic symbol. I guess a collar tab with vertical wolfs-hook has just been turned through 90 degrees... :?

For some reason certain germanic symbols had more than one orientation. Even the hakenkreuz was displayed in a 90 and 45 degree rotation.

The 3rd SS totenkopf also had wandering insignia. Its a real bit of work to find out who wore vertical and who wore horizontal at what time in their history.

Ah... well, according to this source, Landstorm Nederland had three different types of collar tabs, one of which was the flaming grenade.

And sewn on! :D

I confess I'm going to do a little shortcut with the cuff title, and attach it with sticky tape over the Hohenstaufen one. :giggle:
