8th Battalion Durham Light Infantry During Husky.

Postby biguk » Thu Aug 28, 2008 5:51 pm

This weekend, has strangly become very personal for me. I've been researching my Great Uncle who served in the 8th Battalion of the Durham Light Infantry, during the years of the war. Unfortunatly he was killed in Belgium a few weeks before the end of the war. He made it to the rank of Major. I would have so liked to have met him.

Ive just found out that he took part in Operation Husky and was awarded the Military Cross, for his efforts at the bridge at Primosole.

Im interested to know what the DLI got up on while in Sicily and Italy, can anyone shed anymore light?

Im also interested to know what they got up to in other operations, mainly D-Day, but id like to know what he was doing when he got killed.

Thanks
