Hi David,

Yes that weekend is available. (24/24 April 2010)

The main field is open with little cover, though I think Bob has just dumped several tons of earth in middle of arena to give some cover when putting on a battle.

There is one small piece of woodland at the top end of the field just before the Badsey road. Click on the multimap link below, and North East of the red circle is the area with trees.

Perhaps its worth you doing a visit to make sure it meets your requirements.

(note map is a few years out of date & doesn't show all of the camp buildings half-way down field on the left)
Regards
Paul

Pete, if you're up for it, I'm happy to take a drive down there for a look-see.

I did ask specifically about woodland (hence his comment) with a view to cam and concealment lessons.

While there isn't much there (on this old photo) it looks sufficient for instructional purposes (hide and seek) but not any movement practical as per last training day (which is more suited to a woodland training day anyway).

Paul Valiadis has just emailed me asking about when there was going to be a site visit - fair dos as it is seven weeks since we last corresponded.

This side of Christmas will be difficult. I could do it on a weekday though and lump it in with work if you like. Perhaps if Pete and I go when he's not working.

*Edited our rather lewd turn of phrase!*

I've got the next couple of weeks off as annual leave, if that's of any use.

Nah, can't make it work over the next fortnight.

It'll have to be in the New Year.

OK, that will scotch the event as we need to be launched before then. I'll do the recce with you Pete, preferably not a workday else that will lose me a lot of dosh!

When we were an Empire it was run by an Empress
Now we're a country we're run by a..........

I'm ok up to and including December 7th.

I've still got to get the dates for this event off from work, as I don't get my leave request confirmations back until the end of February.

What's the hurry with confirming it anyway?

Can we not just ask people to pencil a date as with Jedburgh.....

The problem at the moment is all of these arseholes going off half-cocked with announcements!

Hurry? Its not that far off, people have to book time off, other people are planning events that may coincide, others are planning on going to events of the same date - hell, 16thSS may go to an event same weekend if we don't get our finger out. And the site would like to know one way or the other. We have drifted seven weeks already!

'Pencilling in' isn't what we approve of. Jedburgh isn't pencilled in, its a firm date and sorted.

What on earth is the point in further delay and what will it achieve? I'm more of the 'don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today because tomorrow never comes' school.

Actually, thinking about it, if Pete can't commit at this point, Guy is an unknown quantity, Stephen isn't in a rush to sort anything and it is a struggle to find a date agreeable to all in April then I suggest this quietly gets shelved. If it ever gets resurrected then it will have to be at the end of 2010 since Stephen's wedding knocks out late summer. I'll head off to Bushey Hall if it turns out to be this weekend instead, with the rest of the 16th!

Amend: we are doing Fortress Wales on 2/3rd May, not Bushey Hall, so 24/25th April is clear for me and rest of 16thSS! :P

It's not that I'm putting it off. It's that I don't have the time to do it today, so it'll have to wait until tomorrow.....or rather the New Year.
