Just wondering if these are genuine British trousers?.. Not sure about the Z above the WD stamp. Could that possibly indicate Aussie or New Zealand?

Its just that I have a blouse with a similar stamp and wondered if that was original 40 patt, as its label only gives name and date(JS Thomson) but not place of manufacture.

I have been told that these are in fact 1949 pattern converted to 1940 pattern.

They're very well converted and from the time before repros were available.

Yes, they're converted '49patt. They've been done very well, but the obvious tell-tale sign is the newer brighter whiter thread used to stitch the modifications with.

Thanks for that chaps... Any idea what the Z above the broad arrow stamp might mean?

Just found this on War relics forum.

WWII British broad arrow letter codes and their meaning
Just adding this for reference , but the letter codes for WWII British arrow marked items is as follows;

R=1939 Q=1940 P=1941 O=1942 N=1943 M=1944 L=1945 though Z can also equal 1945
