(1) What gaiters do I need for a commando or airborne loadout?
(2) Which bolt action should be looking at - a custom LE no4 or a 'captured' K98?

The SAS '44 load out is underway!

Cheers

HB

Anything like these would be fine.

Post war ones are identical except i think they had leather straps.

They come in various sizes so make sure you get the correct size

I believe that SOME Commandos and SAS blackened their webbing eqpt and gaiters

Sabre sales is your best bet.

size 3 is right if you're a sizer 9 or 10 shoe.

War pattern ones uk made ones have brown leather tabs, indian made ones for uk troops have web tabs, some war ecnomy and canadian ones have web tabs as well.

Buckles should be brass.

Some sas lads wore dispatch rider pattern boots.

And you want ammo boots with screwed on rubber soles (boots SV).

as for a weapon.

if you're set on a rifle

m1 carbine, no4 lee enfield or deslisle CC.

I've tried Saber and they don't have a basic 37 set with long (I'm tall) straps in stock, or the gaiters, holster or beret.

Can anyone suggest another seller? Otherwise it's going to be SOF and they're a bit pricey...

WPG sell long stuff. http://www.whatpriceglory.com

For long braces try attaching utility straps to them to extend them. I know at least one "larger re-enactor" that does this.

Failing that try a military fair... there's usually stuff there. eg. The upcoming Malvern one. See the non-airsoft events section for info.

Its a shame that what sabre tell you they have on the phone and what they actually have are completley different.

Yith and i sorted thhrough about a hundred pairs of gaiters in various sizes and conditions last month.

I also found chomley and steiner RAC helmets they had 'sold out of', some leather jerkins they dont stock and some jungle green grollies that they dont have either...

Basically its a lot fo stuff in there and they cant be arsed to look, if you could get there yourself i'd recomend it but its proabbly not practical.

For a holster - Ebay... i've picked them up for less than £10 before.

For the other stuff like yith says WPG

Never SOF unless you have no other choice.

Yep - both SJ and SOF were soooooo expensive. Luckily Joker had a spare set to sell me :D

As for the rifle, I've just bought an <ahem> captured MP40 and I'll wait until the ACM K98 comes out.

If I could help a little here..Ive got my 2nd SAS impression up here. The Sten mk2 wasnt used a lot..but it was used....and I cant afford a BF Thompson..so will make do with my BF sten! If I can help in anyway let me know.....Gadge has also steered me in the right direction as well as reading tons and tons of books!

Harborne Blue, I've got set of genuine war-dated gaiters (large-ish size) which have leather straps and are already blanco'd black. Will not want much at all for them. Interested? If so, going to D-Day+2?

EDIT: Infact, I've got a set of blacked/dark-green genuine basic 37patt webbing kit too, want it?

I suppose its possible that some units blackened everything on silent ops. However Ive never seen any photos or read any evidence that the SAS did it. If someone has any info on that it would be interesting to see. 2nd SAS mostly wore puttees rather than anklets!

I've yet to see pics of blackended webbing.

commandoes scrubbed theirs whiter to avoid blue on blue at night.

Most blackened 37 pattern webbing is post war for policing duties in places like suez

Dark green 37 pat is usually post war 1950s waxy blanco.

Personally I'd steer clear of *anything* other than raw or KG3 blancoed webbing.

 Cheers mateys.....its my first attempt....Gadge had helped steer me in the right direction!! In regards to the loadout....lots of photos of one pouch set up...not just for SAS either...lots of switched on teddys wearing the minimum they can get away with....in my case one pouch for the sten and all the rest of the crap in the bergen. Of course 2ND SAS were Jeep based mainly so wudnt have had a lot of kit on their person....just enough to cause havoc! I think I will rebadge to AAC with maroon beret though....got written evidence for rebadging to RTR but no bloody photos!!!

Thanks for the compliments...means an awful lot after the start my society had!!

I think the problems were not down to anything you did though Doug.

You obviously have a firm grip of reality/historical context and can do a bloody good impression.

You will be *very* welcome at any PBI or CiA game I can assure you (and any of the other player games springing up)

BTW SAS game down south in July (op Haggard)
