I've just been cleaning my boots and I was wondering about the laces as they were just your standard civilian method of lacing them, so I took the opportunity to see what kind of lacing method was regulation, the problem is is that there's no consensus, the Brit Kit Guide on here says Ladder Lacing, but other places say it's a straight bar lacing, can anybody tell me which is correct?

I'm not sure what you'd call it, but we used to:

Tie a double knot in one end of the (leather) lace.

Thread through the lower outer lacehole leaving the knot under the eyelet out of sight.

Over to the lower inner lacehole, and in.

Then up and out of number two lacehole on the inner side.

Over and into number two outer lacehole.

Then up and out of number three outer lacehole.

And so on and so forth.....

This leaves you with only the horizontal lacing visible, and the eternal puzzle of how best to tie your bootlaces when you've only got one end left over....

Sorry for the crappy description, hope it helps anyway.

Regards
Joe

I think it was called Kings lacing, that's one of the other suggestions I've seen, so far I've done Ladder and now my boots are currently in Straight Bar Lacing.

You live and learn! I had never heard that it was called King's lacing.

It's mentioned on this forum topic where you can see Chomley Warner having a discussion over the medical benefits of lacing methods.

I think 'kings lace' was the expected method of lacing your boots, one advantage is they hardly ever come undone and you also have a smarter finish and odd loops of lace dont fall out of the edge of the anklet.
