Hello, with Warren mentioning in his Owen thread that they're planning a special Mayalan emergency game at the hill, I decided I need to get some JG trousers & shirt & if I'm getting that I might as well go the extra mile and just make a chindit kit. I hat a look at the various threads I could find and Gadge & Yith provided some great pictures but I couldn't see a kit guide, probably because I'm being blind, so I wanted to put up a kit list here and see if it's right before proceeding.

Here goes;
-Replicator JG shirt & trousers,
-Replicator Indian Army pullover
-Slouch hat
-Boots & Puttees
-'37 Patt belt & cross straps, waterbottle pouch, Bren pouches (or bren pouch & thompson pouch as I saw pictures of troops with owens using this setup and figured Thompson users could have too) Dyed/Blancoed green to match the JG's (anyone know which Blanco to use for this?)
-'37 Patt Large pack with bren pouches attached to the sides
-Machete or Kukri (for display only)
-Thompson 'M1928'

Comments, crticisms, advice?

A pretty good list and not far off at all! Just a few points... :)

- anklets (gaiters) are also acceptable instead of puttees, the use varied between regiments
- Commando Bergans are an acceptable alternative to the large pack with side pouches, again variations in regiments
- Don't use dyed webbing, that came in much later. In TFSS we use KG3 blanco, but I've recently read that it may be that no blanco may be more correct. I'm still not sure though. Whatever the case if you do you KG3 you'll have webbing you can also use in NWE, probably.
- Weapons can also include Sten MkII, SMLE, Bren, M1 carbine.

If you go slightly later you can also have No4s. Don't even go down the No5 route unless you're going post war. Though for Malaya it would be okak. ;)

Ah so that's why I couldn't find it, my security clearence wasn't high enough :) I really am very impressed with the kit Yith, given the standard of you & Gadge I'm surprised it's never been suggested as an impression for the PBI, I realise games would be few & far between but it's something a bit different & hardly expensive relatively speaking.

Thanks for the feedback, I have gaiters too so I may mix & match depending on mood, the pack & bren pouches I just liked the sound of as it seemed quite characteristic, whereas the Commando bergen was more famous for use with the Commando's/Airlanding troops. I shall make sure & use the blanco.

As far as weapons go I'd love you have any (or all) of those listed, the M1928 seems the most likely to get anytime soon, what with the Cyma/Cybergun version, which I will modify to make it more like an actual M1928. I'm eagerly awaiting the AGM Sten, would love an M1 and am saving up for a Lee Enfield from Warren. I was planning on getting an No4 (T) from Warren and am tempted to have a bash at converting a No1Mk3 myself, I'm actually rather keen on the idea of a SMLE which is just 330FPS, I figure I'd be using it as a general purpose gun rather than a sniper rifle (mad minute anyone?) I'm willing to suffer in the firepower stakes against the hi-cap, spray & pray auto users for my art :ghey:

I have to say I was rather concerned about the kukri, how common were these for the british troops? Was it mainly machetes or an even mix?

When we set up PBI it was one of the possible impressions we put forward. If we can ever get enough people interested in doing Jap then we'll definitely be up for it. Unfortunately I'm one of the few airsofters who have looked into a jap impression. I have hat and putees. But of course I'd rather do Chindit! ;)

Well it worked for me at Operation Ariel with my SMLE, so I do wonder if it is possible. I will be trying again! See my controversial post on the subject.

The Kukri is a valid option, I reckon though the army issue big kukri is better than most small ones. See the pic.

Probably was mainly machetes, a lot of dah's though.

What length is the issue kukri?

I had looked at the thread on rifles running at normal FPS and found it quite interesting. I'd been toying with the idea previously of, when it came time to get the No4, seeing how much extra it would cost to get another bolt from Warren and run it almost like a systema. One hi-power sniper bolt & a bolt running about 330 FPS, if I was working in more built up areas where range can be a real issue. I can see the logic of range being the rifles big advantage over the automatics and offsetting their firepower but in theme WW2 airsoft where hopefully we see more & more bolt actions this becomes less of an issue, but I'll leave it for the thread.

Well a Gurkha one has a grip that is too small for my large western hands. An issue one has a grip which is quite possibly too big instead!

The main differences though are that a military one doesn't have the skinning knives with it and nowhere in the sheath to store them (you don't generally skin your enemy ;) ). Also the blade is stamped with appropriate British Imperial markings. Mine, if I remember correctly, is marked with a date of 1919 and the letters "GRI", which means its made in Imperial India.

See the pic for what it looks like. Quite a bit different from the Ghurka ones that generally have a black sheath for a start.

Here's a good pic. The issue Kukri ia at the top, issue machete in the middle and FS dagger at the bottom:

A pair of Dahs. The top one is in a sheath I made myself. The bottom one is an original sheath. Both Dahs are original.

The same dahs, out of their sheaths. All original this time. You can see from the state of one of the sheaths why I had to make a new one.
