I had a little white bag with some serge attached amongst my kit and was could never place it.
Till I found this
A post war Union sewing kit, with still most of the contents. Note the U around the M
I had also bought this which was a Union WWII marked sewing kit, which I then filled with the correct goods. Note the U around the broad arrow.
Here is my Brit one now, restored, along with the others.
