Morning guys!

So I'm going to the Road to Rome event and since its my first ww2 event I wanted to make a good impression on you veterans.

I currently have an airborne loadout with wool BD trousers, a denim BD top and the usual 37 pattern webbing. I will get myself a tommy hat for the event but am not sure whether I should be going for just a plain mk2, with a net or a hessian? Is there anything else notable for the Italian campaign I'll need?

Regards,

Ralph

The weather in Italy ranged from extremely hot and sunny to very wet and cold, so the troops wore everything from desert KD to winter gear. There isn't anything particularly 'Italian' I can think of so just BD and a Mark II would be fine.

Helmet net can't hurt, it isn't 1940 after all :)

Cheers
Martin

My tommy hat has been ordered. Can't wait to try it out. I've also ordered denim BD trousers to match my denim top. I do have wool trousers too but as I'm a ginger I'm like a vampire and so have a tenancy to melt in the slightest bit of heat, and I don't think a melting tommy is historically accurate :-D

Martin nailed it. Italian Front uniform transcends motley. You can pretty much get away with anything. I always like the fetching wool trousers, khaki drill shirt look myself!

Maybe if it's not too hot I'll break out the wool trousers!

If you wear shorts you'll instantly mark yourself out as absolutely nails and a person to be feared. Go for shorts. ;)

You make a strong case and I'm tempted to wear shorts purely to brave taking bb's to the leg (which sods law says every bb would)

British shorts aren't actually that bad if worn with hose tops, only your knees show.

But wool trousers and a lightweight top work well and look good. It is March though, I don't imagine it is going to be baking hot.

Thanks for the offer but now I've ordered my tommy hat I'm all set for uniform. I'll wear my denim BD and wool trousers.

I'm going to a Skirmish game the week before so I'll try out my loadout then.

Can't wait for the 28th!

Ralph

One thing I did want to ask was how many bb's do you need to carry on you for the game?

When skirmishing there's always enough time to reload in the safe zone before we all head out again, so I don't tend to carry anything but magazines and a speed loader. I suspect a ww2 game is a bit different.

I know there's a limit to how many rounds you can carry and you can reload your mags at a friendly cp but how many bb's do people normally keep on them? Enough for the whole day or is there a break when you can stock up?

Regards,

Ralph

You tend to only use a fraction of that you would use on an open day, I think the minimum I've used is about 12 on a rifles only game and maximum about 750, I normally carry a small bag of about 1000 with me and that's suffice unless you have a HMG :D, of course I tend to die a lot :giggle: and don't hit much

Normally take about 3000 rounds out with me; albeit I tend to stick them in a little bag, otherwise you get the ominous rattling of doom when they're inside the plastic container and you're moving about.

How many you'll actually use?

Varies massively, depending on what gun you've got and how much you get stuck in. Can vary from a few hundred to a few thousand.

I'm certainly intending to get stuck in. With that in mind I'll bring 3000 and divide them up into sealable plastic bags as advised. Wouldn't want to be the guy who gives away his squads position cos his bb's are rattling [emoji4]

Ralph

As above, depends on the game. WW2 games tend to be a lot less shooty than open days, and some games restrict how much ammo you can carry anyway. Least used in a day, around 40, most used, dunno, 1500 or so, but that was with a support weapon.

Gunman games are more on the shooty side, so I usually take out a couple of thousand, but rarely use more than a few hundred.

More important than ammo is food and water, you don't want to be passing out in the field. If t is a warm day you will sweat buckets.

A bag of fruit and nut mix has reveal hundred calories in it and is easily digestible.
