It does look pretty good!

Thanks for all the great advice in this thread, I'll remember plastic bags for bb's and nuts and Raisins for food.

Regards,

Ralph

Looks great. Are you joining Kasserine Pass as well?

I plan to wear Aussie pattern KD and slouch hat. Long trousers though as it's not the tropics.
I may even ditch the anklets just to annoy the Brits with my slovenly approach to proper lower leg attire :)
Webbing will be pouches, belt and cross straps with large pack. The large pack is better for carrying the helmet as the blanket straps keep it in place. The pack will contain food ammo and an inflatable pillow (to make it look full and provide a comfortable seat during lunch).

Damn it, always get them the wrong way round... Straps to the outside... might wear putties, lol.

Will be doing Kasserine Pass with some 8th Armoured so need Rome to check my Rhodesia Regiment gear is all in order.

The easiest thing to do with the anklets is to grab the end with the straps on and place it against the outside of the ankle with the straps facing backwards, and do them up from there. For some reason having the buckles going forwards seems 'wrong', I'm sure we've all had a senior moment trying to get them on the right way round, I have exactly the same problem with Germans gaiters.

Funnily enough I can do the right anklet fine but when it comes the left I kind of flounder about and seem to age 50 years for a moment

That's because it is wrong ;-) I once turned out for a parade at a reenactment event with my puttees on backwards. Luckily the rupert doing the inspectioin didn't notice....

One last thing, do I need to scrub my webbing?

It's pretty much up to you. Rule of thumb: Scrubbed with KD, Blanco'd with battledress. It gets expensive to keep scrubbing and re-blancoing though and it can be tough to get all the blanco scrubbed out with the modern liquid stuff. I would wait and see how addicted you get and then consider getting a 2nd set of webbing so you can have one set scrubbed, the other blanco'd.
I had to use natural webbing coloured blanco on my Aussie webbing to get an unblanco'd look. At £20 each time you switch from one colour to another it really doesn't take long before a 2nd set is cheaper.

Oh I'd say I'm pretty addicted already :-D . I'll leave it for now and after Road to Rome I'll start looking to get a separate set for the kasserine pass game. By then I'll have my Thompson ready too.

Ralph
