Now then. After loving wearing KD at Kasserine, we're lo0king to do a KD CMP loadout. Got all the nicely whitened (good old weathershield) webbing etc and the jacket and keks. Now here is the issue. I'm getting conflicting view on the interweb on what insignia is on the jacket. We're looking at Sergeant tapes, but WPG says you only need one as that's all that was on originally. Any ideas chaps?

It gets confusing as a lot of pictures of 'British' troops in KD turn out to be Australian. Australians only have rank on their right arm, whereas British troops tend to enjoy the extra work.
Look carefully and you will see ranks stripes on both arms.
According to Brian L Davies' British Army Uniforms & insignia of World War Two:
"Chevrons and badges of rank or appointment were worn on both arms of Tropical shirts. Khaki Drill jackets, Service Dress jackets, Battle-Dress blouses and the drab greatcoat; on other garments, such as the Airborne Forces gabardine smock, the Denison smock, PT smocks and working clothing, the chevrons or badges of rank or appointment were worn on the right arm only."
I have a small skewer hidden in the collar of my jumping jacket, and a razorblade in my gaiter, as well as my knife.
If you don't fancy lots of sewing you could always put them on an armband (a frequent option on KD) or press studs.
So the stripes could be removed prior to laundering.
Cheers
