no -one said you were lying....

please pick me one up mate. cheers

Heh, no it was just a bit of a necro-post, and seeings as no-one had jumped at this extreme bargain, I thought otherwise
There's only so many that I can buy and stuff into my collection for myself, y'see
I'll pick you up a nice one (sure you only want one at these prices? ) Due to different manufacturers and material availability of the time; would you prefer a metal ended locking tab (be it gun-metal or brass) or a bare ended locking tab? And gun-metal or brass fixtures-and-beltclips?

They also had some of the rarer very dark green ones for use with '44patt. Same price too, but I don't know if they've any left.

Damn I was in Eynsham last week due to work :slap:

Will checkout W S Surpluss next time I'm down

Their Eynsham shop only sells office furniture unfortunately, but their military surplus store is down the road in Oxford itself, in Botley (in the retail park area - get directions for 'Maplin' electronics shop to find it). :good:

EDIT: And if anyone is wondering why they're called "The Dragon Bag" on the display, it's because of the local private school - "Dragon something or other" - has had them issued as school lunch bags since the '60s! (so I'm told). So parents go there to buy the traditional school satchel, being it a war-time dated resi' bag!
It really is a sight to see all these little kids in posh blazers with resi' bags slung over their shoulders 8) Very evacuation-era looking....

brass or gun metal end please, and if they have the little brass "D" rings on the back ,, even better lol.

Hi guys, my grand dad just picked me up a load of kit form in a largepack including some L-Straps.
I just wanted to know how they fit onto the rest of the webbing, any pics would be brilliant.
Cheers, Craig

I've had a look through several threads before posting, but cant find an answer so asking for advice in here.
My British loadout for the moment consists of a Belgian Denison, 37 ptn basic set and a SoF set of denims and side cap. Puttes and DMS boots. I've been given a pair of seargent's stripes and was going to sew them on the arms of the denim jacket, but thought I 'd ask where exactly to sew them in relation to the top pf the sleeve. From what I've read, not a lot of other insignia was worn on the jacket which suits me as I want the look to stay as generic as possible.

10.5" from the top seam of the sleeve to the bottom point of the bottom chevron for Sgt.

And yes, rank is the only insignia to be sewn on to denims. Even then it might even be placed on an arm band instead.

If you want to get strict about it, they should be denim stripes as well, with few exceptions, right sleeve only for early war. Unless you are home guard, which with a denison I suspect you won't be.

What does a denim stripe look like and how is it different from the cotton ones that you get from Monty's Locker?

Is it the sort of thing a Sergeant Major would tear you off for, or is it like German Litzen and shoulderboards, where you get what you're given, be it new, old or recycled

How much was the SD Tunic used during WW2? Were they completely replaced by BD (if "yes" then when?) or did some get permission to use the SD Tunics if they prefered(Im thinking anyone: privates/officers/whole regiments)?

In a combat role? Pretty much never. Pretty much replaced straight away with the introduction of the 39patt BD.
Some, and I say some [i.e: a very insignificant number] units of the BEF in 1940 were still using SD, due to not receiving their BD yet.

OK, though numerous means I have managed to obtain danish woolen battle dress trousers, which are noticeably green, and a repro woolen battledress jacket, which is noticeably brown. Now, I'm not aiming for re-enactment levels here, just something skirmishable, but is this going to be a huge problem? Or was a potential mis-match of colour a serious jar on the eye?

No, not really, and especially not for airsofting :good:
BD attempted to be all the same colour, but due to numerous manufactureres and what was avaliable at the time, BD wool did have some variation. You could just be the Tommy who got issued BD from two of the exteams!
And Canadian BD was greener anyways.

Just look for pictures of Monty... There's plenty of him in mismatched BD! :)

If it's good enough for your field marshall... ;)

Though I do prefer a matching set of brown BD myself, it'd be very wrong to say that was what everyone had.

Green though would be very rarely seen outside of Canadians I'd have thought though.

Fair enough, I'll not bother digging out the dylon and vinegar then. So that is a good pair black boots (I only seem to have brown boots!) and a good tommy helmet and a para helmet to go and then I am able to pull off a either a British tommy or an airborne loadout.

If you have Brown ammo boots in my size, I will happily swap you.

Unfortunately no ammo boots, I've generally skirmished in modern but old school look leather upper walking/ankle boots that I already have, and all are brown! The closest to ammo boots I do have are these Swedish boots I got em from this guy

Not sure if re-encator suitable, but very good for skirmish in most weathers. Old school look without the heat leeching leather soles. I keep an eye on his site for when he has stuff on discount. Currently put aside for WW2 US/French/Other skirmish use.

Not really, Canadian BD was sought after by UK squaddies as it was a better quality serge as well... particularly desirable to walking out kit.
