There's a website that sells repro Greek WW2 uniforms, but I can't remember the name of it :slap: . I'm quite sure they sell the side cap in question.

I've recently come into possession three cap badges. One's for the Black Watch as some may remember from previous posts. I now have The Scots Guards and The Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders.

I'm just wondering whether officers wore glengarries in the field and also if anyone knows where to get a military balmoral bonnet since my search usually takes me to America and I don't want to pay for huge shipping fees.

Thank you for reading, ladies and gentlemen.

Anyone know where to get a WW2-style balaclava?

Why do you always carry that umbrella?
-Bad memory. Never could remember the password. Knew no Jerry would carry one. Had to prove I was an Englishman, you see.

I think SchipperFabrik sells some, more of a knitted toque really, but I assume that's what your talking about.

Hadnt noticed about the postage-Sorry.

Do a search for balaclava in theWW2 section and there is one on there but at £49.99 so thought this may do at a fraction of the price.

sir.

Its Mam actually

It's similar to a Yugoslavian Titovka cap, and Yugoslavia as well as Bulgaria were sources of uniforms for the DSE, but it has a visor that the Titovka lacks. The side cap worn by Hungarian troops in ww2 comes very close but is shaped a little differently. I might just try modifying a FS cap.

Thank you all for replying so quickly!

Another option might be to buy one of the repro FS caps from Spearhead Militaria on Ebay.

The buttons on these look to be non functional, and can just be cut off without the front of the cap flapping open. Lightweight too!

Mine came from WPG too, you might want to go a size or three up on what the site says. Mine only just fits and really it need to be baggy.

Cheers

Any suggestions as to what to wear the brit ID tags on and where to get it? I currently have mine on common household string, but as I'm in the habit of wearing them everyday, it quickly turns manky and starts to fall apart. I'd use an american chain, but I'd be worried the metal would start to wear through the tag. :(

I would say just replace the string when considered too manky? Pretty sure mine are on normal string (they are also probably lost as well).

I think chain would be wrong and manky string right!

I'm going to hazard a wild and unsubstantiated conjecture that they were issued with nice string (perhaps not cotton - linen maybe, and cordy rather than stringy) but replaced when that broken with anything that was to hand.

Anyway, string is a very important thing. Rope is thicker but string is quicker.

I think then, it might be a case of simply buying some better quality string :D
