Did Brits ever wear Thompson mag pouches?

Thompson mags just go in the normal Brit universal pouches. You can get 5 in each pouch at a squeeze.

I have seen a picture of some weird custom Thompson mag pouches specially for the Brits that are kind of like the US ones, but not quite. I've never seen any in the flesh though. Certainly they didn't use the US ones as far as I know, they wouldn't be compatible with the British webbing system.

BTW, ideally you should be using the 20 round thompson mags rather than the 30 round ones... though the 30 round mags do fit fine in the Brit pouches... If you use the 20 round mags, you'll be able to fit a grenade on top of them in the pouch.

A 50 round drum mag in a 1928 Thompson is also valid.. for that use Lewis gun mag pouches. :) Sabre Sales sell them in the form of a set of 4 as "supplemental" pouches. I have a picture of them attached to webbing in the same way as the universal pouches... to do with the ones from Sabre will require changing the attachments on the back... I reckon I might give that a go as I have some spare bits I can use left over from my Chindit Large pack conversion... :)

Oh yes...

I also read that they kept the drum mags in a small pack hung over their shoulder on a webbing strap...

They rock. I've never seen them before. Do you know how much they are selling them for?

haven't actually got a clue how they were worn with other webbing, i'll need to do some research on that!

For the record though, they're ever so slightly too big for thompson drum mags, so i'm going to have to pad them out a little so they sit better.

That Tommy 100 rd webbing looks a LOT like the Lewis gun sets from WW1. Adapted by a frugal MOD maybe?

What about something like the US mag bag. It slung over your shoulder and was sort of a GP bag.

Dont think it would work for early war tho mate.

There were special sets of 08 webbing made for Lewis gun teams that had four circular pouches for carrying Lewis mags. They have two on the front and two on the back and look exactly like the ones shown for the 100rd Tommy mags.

So they are 1908 Lewis LMG Mag pouches then.
