As the title says really. I'm looking to complete my early-mid war infantry impression and just need a little advice on whether to get the 1928 or m1a1?
Regards,
Ralph
Going off of all the photos I've seen of Brit and Commonwealth troops, your best bet is the '28 fitted with horizontal hand guards. Airsoft armoury (UK based) had the King Arms EBB ones in stock last time I looked (around 3 weeks ago). They were £300 if I remember rightly. Hope this helps.
Depends on what you're portraying and where. If you really want a Thompson though, an M1928 is best for British impressions (Italy, Far East, Commando etc.).
Unfortunately the ebb is out of stock and the seller doesn't know when it'll be back. I'll settle for the KA 1928 with real wood.
I know the drum mags weren't using so I'm looking to find some short 20 round magazines. Anyone know if Tokyo marui magazines fit?
EDIT: Found out you can convert the king arms midcap mags to the correct 20rnd length. Hopefully I can get this all up and running for the Road to Rome.

Ralph
The non EBB KA "28" Tommy is not a '28 at all, it's an M1A1 with different rear sites and a fluted barrel, the receiver, and stock stick out as very wrong.
Here is the EBB version, in stock and UK based: http://airsoftarmoury.co.uk/acatalog/Ki ... -1131.html

Oh jeebus! I've just gone and ordered the non ebb Thompson. I'll see if I can get that canceled before its dispatched. I'd rather have the correct replica and pay a little more. Thanks for that, Moss.

No problem, glad I could help mate. Hope you can get that order cancelled.
Quick response from the store and my order has been canceled. EBB here we come!

Ralph
Nice one mate, hope you enjoy your new toy!
Well that's sods law. Tried to order the ebb this morning and it's now out of stock! Can't seem to find anywhere else in stock, even internationally. King Arms must have made a limited run.

Ralph
Ah bugger, sorry about that mate. Maybe King arms will make another batch soon.
Hopefully. King Arms will make some more soon but Airsoft Armoury said that they're not being produced at the moment and they don't have a time frame for when they will.
Thinking I might have to settle for the 1928 with the m1a1 receiver and try to mod it myself. I'm sure I can at least get the woodwork right

Ralph
If you're going down the conversion route, you might want to have a look at this: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=16837
Made from a King Arms M1A1 if memory serves me right. Having seen it in person (so to speak) I can confirm that it is very nice indeed.
That's a nice looking Thompson. I will get me some Quick Steel to sculpt a bolt hackle I think. I'm hoping to keep the trademarks of the king arms receiver so my plan is to cut a hole in the top of the receiver and fill in the m1a1 slide with quick steel.
I've already ordered an original 1928 stock that I'll hollow out for the battery and I'll either convert some short magazines or use the tm 190rnd short hi caps. Not too find of hi caps generally but they're metal so will look good.
Should I stick with the vertical grip or go horizontal? I've found a lot of pictures of brits using both.
Regards,
Ralph
The 1928 Thompson has a square, box like upper receiver, whereas the M1A1 upper receiver is thinner and curves outwards where it meets the lower receiver. Dcheetham89 used steel box to turn the M1A1 upper receiver into that of the 1928, but it's up to you how you go about it. I think he also used quick steel to make the bolt handle which seemed more than sturdy enough.
In terms of what foregrip you go for, it really is up to you. I personally prefer the look of the horizontal but as you say plenty of pictures showing both horizontal and vertical, maybe go for which ever you feel is more comfortable/sturdy to hold?
