After the delight of Crete I thought I should rush out and buy some KD shorts and a shirt. I've figured out the short sizes (buy one size larger) but the linked to 'shirt' sizes on the site make no sense. A size 40 is actually a 42" chest? or maybe not??

I'm a 40" chest and 15.5" collar usually - any advice on the right wpg shirt size?

Thanks
Martin

Just go on the rule that if you get one that is too big for you, just wear it anyway. The one you saw me wearing at Crete was quite a few sizes too large (it is a 48" chest!) for what would be a 'recomended' sizing for me ( <--- take a look at the pic of me in my avatar to the left here, the shirt looks great, even though its supposedly way to big for my usual 42" chest), but British clothing for combat was never issued to be fitted like from a taylors.

KDs always look better baggier - you don't want to end up looking like a 1970s footballer.... :slap: :giggle:

I've got one I might be persuaded to sell Martin, if I can find it!

Thanks Pete, just let me know. There isn't a huge rush but as McV says, bigger is better, so I guess a 42-44" chest would do.

The other thing is hose tops vs socks - the long khaki socks look a lot more practical but perhaps they are more of a mid-late war thing?

Is there a big difference between Australian hosetops (which seem to only cost $4) and UK ones? The Aussie ones look a bit greener to me.

Cheers
Martin

Martin, I'm exactly the same size as you and the 40 fits perfectly.

The long socks are more practical but hose tops are more commonly seen in N Africa and the Med with shorts.
I have some UK and Australian hosetops. The Australian are greener but within the range of greeny-brown I have seen the UK ones in. The Australian ones do seem of a finer wool knit than the UK ones.
