My brother was wearing a stormtrooper (of the Star Wars variety!) undersuit, multi-layered with binbags held together with duct tape under his feldgrau on sunday and his only regret was that he didn't think of it on saturday!
I think us Jerries had an inherent advantage with our woolen kit, in that it's warm even when wet. The poor old G.I's just got wet and stayed wet in their canvas style kit. I didn't know that they spent as long as they did without shelter before getting to their base, so I feel just a teeny tiny bit guilty for taking the mickey out of them after we attacked them (only a bit, mind you!).
The weather was the one thing that couldn't be organised or scripted. I think everyone has learned from their experiences at CR, good or bad and will learn from it for the future, which is what life is all about. I had a brilliant time and would do it all again this weekend if I had the chance, no matter what the weather. The organisation, the site and the players made it for me and a bit of poxy rain will never put a damper on that.
When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!
They were all dead... didn't have much choice unless I wanted to be captured...
Actually, we weren't all dead.
We had landed and patrolled some 20 yards (heh) when I suddenly hear a hiss "Enemy!", and so I hit the deck. I had seen nothing, and a quick scan still reveals nothing. I ask Yith where are they? He points in a direction that is obscured to me by a fallen tree. In any case, I stay put and keep eyes open. After a while Yith crawls forward toward me and just as he asks "think that's long enough to move on... Oh s**t there they are!" He crawls back again.
Right in front of me I see 3 Germans moving to my right. Just 3. They stop and take a knee, one of them is pointing in our direction.
"They've seen us!" I hiss at Yith. No response.
The Germans edge a little closer, they seem to be scanning the ground in front of them.
"They know we're here boss!" Again, no response.
The Germans edge a little closer again. I raise my thompson and take aim.
The German I'm aiming at then raises his weapon to aim. I open fire, at almost the exact moment Yith calls "Bug out!" an gets up to peel left. I keep the fire up in an attempt to cover him, then I get up myself and move.
I jump into the hole of an uprooted tree in a hail of fire. I haven't been hit yet, I peer round the roots and fire at the Germans trying to follow us. Then some BBs ping off my cover from behind me, I'm surrounded. Gliderrider is in front of me, crawling up under a fallen tree. Beyond him I spot a German helmet peering over the bush. Fire is exchanged, the German withdraws, Gliderrider is down. I can't break cover to bandage him, Fritz is everywhere! I remain in my tree-hole, firing out of one side, then the other. There's a lull in the shooting, I can't see any Germans, I can't see any of my team alive, and Yith is nowhere to be seen... Now what do I do?
I decide to move, as I break cover, a waiting German then springs up and opens up full auto on me from a couple of yards. Thankfully for me, nothing came out of his gun. But being the honorable sort, I took it as a kill anyway.
Thrilling stuff, but in the end not a good start to the battle in my opinion.
Morgs, that is very honorable, I would have shot him.
errr that was me ... actually, and well done morg for taking the bang kill i was very close to you...

LOL, a little bit of civility in a weekend of unpleasantness.
(didn't realize you'd 'Banged' him, just thought your weapon had jammed)
well done morgs for taking the hit.
at the arhnem game a guy got me "bang to rights" with a pistol at 10 yards, his bbs fell short as his gas let him down, but fairs fair , so i took it.
if someones gun lets them down, and you KNOW you wouldnt have had a chance, its only fair to take it.
at open days ive seen the same happen numerious times, and the people who should have died have just turned laughed and BLATTED the opposition.
i DONT like the bang rule, its nice to offer it, but i would rather take a round or two in the leg, for example.
to many times , ive said bang, only to be BLATTED, so now i always fire a three round burst at a leg, if im close in.

This wasn't when I left... I actually moved over to the other side of you and got shot by CW.
I was then mediced and stayed put for a while longer. I got CW and then kept on hearing our guys going down around us.
I couldn't see what was going on and asked the medic who was left. He said there were three of us. You, me and him. I suggested it was time to go for proper this time... he agreed. Almost immediately you were shot, so we decided we should go. We both got up and ran.... he was taken out, but I got away.
these firefights sound brilliant, god i wish id been there.
more tales please

OK, another. This time during the 88 attack.
A small group of us headed North uphill through the woods in an extended line hoping to intercept an attack. We hadn't got too far when a stick of enemy were spotted three hundred yards to our right, close to the eastern edge of the woods heading south. We dropped and observed. We waited until the long single line filed past and I ordered a 90 degree turn and we moved with speed to hit them from the back.
We got closer and closer. As the enemy moved down into a hollowed clearing I moved forward on a recce. Shit! They had grouped in a hollow and I could see two US helmets 20' in front of me. It looked like they were the rear guard. If I'd had a pocket full of grenades I could have taken the whole lot out there and then but it was too risky to do an AEG assault - the rear guards would have cut us down.
I moved back to the squad and sent Neil and Keith on a wide flank so we could distract from one side and attack from the other. We waited while they got into position. Just as they got to position the whole group of enemy started moving out without a backward glance. Bugger - there had been no rear guard at all! Careless as you like they snaked downwards toward the road with us up their arses. As they neared the road they got attacked from the front and sides anyway so we dispatched who we could then busied ourselves with a bunch of Dutch who for some reason didn't like us being in their country.
Ah well, the enemy got away that time and all because I assumed they were being careful!
Damn it.
They were holed up there while myself and Capa recce'd the 88 site. So much for all round defence if they never spotted you.
It was you guys that shot me while I was thinking of crossing the road.
We came back from the recce and as I was telling Yith what we had seen, the sounds of battle start up at the 88 as Headshot's squad start their attack. Yith then orders an organised charge down to the road to help Headshot's squad.
We got held up by a few gerries on the other side. I shot one, then shot another guy trying to bandage him, then a third. The guy next to me then dropped his M14 and pulled out a pistol, his gun had stopped working and he seemed out of fighting spirit. As I considered my options in crossing this road, I happened to look back to see Germans comming round behind us, as I opened fire on one, another shot me in return.
Count yourself lucky Morgs, you SAW some action at the 88! Me and my Brother had cammed ourselves up near the 88, ready to ambush any allies if they got near it, we lay there watching Oldsweat fire off the rockets. We cammed ourselves so well that one of our own guys nearly stepped on us! We never fired a round until we attacked the allied camp (when we made up for it big time!).
When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!
ha ha ha who was it that nearly fell over you ?
Dunno his name I'm afraid but he was dressed as a falschirmjager. He almost shot us in fright!
When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!
tho shouldn't really laugh, when we went to do the mortar retreival at the allied camp we started (I was in Guy's group) behind CW .... who took a strange way about getting there and we couldn't see them on arrival near the camp
I went off with (soz forgot your name
) a bloke to do a recce 20 yards ahead. Got to the point heard a noise and it was decided I'd go back and tell Guy and Co that there was noise and we suspected someone was infront of us..... so off we went back to the point I'd left the bloke from the recce, us all with weapons at the ready, when who pops his head up
CW who had doubled back cos they heard a noise too
Heh!
I had just started catching up with my squad - I stopped off for a pee and had just 'finished' when I heard a noise. Pausing for a second to cover my modesty (with a very large fieldcap ) I saw Headshot saunter up to our flag and watched him remove it with a big grin on his face.
My grin was bigger when I shouted out 'Bang! Bang! Bang!' - t'was taken in good jest.
Just as well, I had put the MP40 down and it wasn't an AEG sort of weapon I had in my hand!
Then you lot can crashing up, so you missed the 'action'.
Lol, looks like you had a "self exposure" thing going CW, what with showing your ass to everyone as well!
When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!
Meh, if you've got it, flaunt it!
Meh, if you've got it, flaunt it!
To which it almost makes me grateful we missed the "action" so to speak on our recce
Yeah, there were more than enough German helmets on display as it was!
When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!
Boom, boom! I'll get your coat for you...
