Luckily, nope. It's a lass I was messing around with at work who moved up North to take a better job last month. This one is a bit of a nutter, but not a psycho-bunny-boiler. Thank god.
Whoohoo! I've totally subverted the thread.

What's Rich up to?
PD... will you be at the social the night before Operation Ariel?
If so, then I think we definitely should have a chat.

Rich's ego and gob + PD's ego + gob = critical mass, in a 10 Kilotonne nuke kind of way. Well, it'll be amusing.

BTW at St Lo. Rich = Absolutely bloody awful CO.
He had no idea how to rally people or how to give orders. Surprisingly Scaleyback was pretty bad too.
Half the time Heide came to the rescue. I had to bite my tongue on several ocassions whilst Rich fumbled.
Thanks Dave for smiling knowingly at me whilst my squad got massacred, because we had no orders apart from 'move forward'......into a clear German line and incoming fire!!
What's Rich up to?
He just wants to find out what sort of event it is. I could tell him - its not for participants who wimp out when it gets wet (Yith) of flake out half way through a gentle PBI WW2 game (Gadge).

For all their marthering about who had stripes and pigging squad structures no on game a thought as to who could actually command. Logic dictates that those who know the scenario should take overall command (its them that drives the game). But in this case they have Evo, Gadge, Rich, Nige, Andy & Pete who are all (in theory) running the game. Too many at the top!
I'd agree that Nige was shocking at his attempt at being commander - he had no idea and was pitiful to watch. Rich, the usual bumbling, shouty non-tactical-ness. Ranj also has stripes but didn't take charge much. Pete was very frustrated as you say and you both had the good sense to take the initiative and drove the US from then on... Webby, usual 'war/film hero' working on his own, pistol in hand.
Funnily enough, Germans weren't much better. Confusion as to the game/objectives. Carl in theory leading but not able to do much. Evo and Gadge neglecting to command Germans in first half.
As far as I could see, squad structures evaporated - despite the reason for having short games was to maintain this 'realism'.
Still, no doubting chaps enjoyed it. Nice day out, non-arduous 'games', shoot at some enemy, win some, lose some. But 'milsim' as Gadge maintains PBI games are/ My arse!
Give Rich his due, he was one of the last men standing at CR.
Yeah, I don't know why they go on about Milsim; it's crap.
I had a bloody good day and really enjoyed the game, but it was just a series of short games with no real feel for structure or outcome. Just a laugh and a blat.
Heide's keen to do a bit more stuff at Aerial with me, so perhaps we can assign him to my unit. He VERY good at the sneaky beaky stuff and I could do with a trustworthy point man!
Rich only stayed at CR because he was an 'organiser'. He would have left otherwise, in fact he nearly did at one point!
Absolutely, Pete's your man at Ariel - you won't have more than five men at the start as not much room to move and you do need to be careful!
Cool. Let me know who, or let me pick five out, and I'll give them a heads-up that they need to get some active camo going on. Burnt cork all the way!
It's all gone a bit quiet innit?
I PMd PD about commanding for him and got no reply. Nothing on the forum for about a month.
S
Odd post from PD about his event.
I note with interest Gadge trying to leap on the bandwagon.
BTW, all this talk about PBI being as close to reenactment as airsoft has got is annoying me. Since when did stopping every thirty minutes to find out the score amount to realism?

PD's post comes across as very bitter. Mind you, I don't blame him!

Yeah, it's a bit . Especially since the bandages idea, as well as the 300 round ammo limit, were mine! Gadge pushes on with his "please accept and worship me" plan.

He's been posting all over facebook. He has put up pictures of himself and has, at every opportunity, posted about how he's a journo and gets to dress up and play with guns for a living. Not much of a living, I assume.
Nige is always on there feeding his ego too.
I've now blocked their updates as it was annoying me.
I didn't like Webby's scale either!
No. I don't know why he put us below PBI on the realism front. The events we run are a much tougher ordeal than a 30 minute walk on a tiny site.
Absolutely. I think Ariel set a new benchmark for WW2 airsoft, much better than "stop, start" games and a damned sight more immersive and realistic. I've got some ideas for the Jedburgh replacement which could push it even further. CiA innovate, whereas I've seen nothing new at a PBI game and don't expect to anytime soon either.
