Go on.....
Well, it was a nice, sunny day! You were right Steve, Tuddenham is a shit site. I hadn't got a clue what was going on for the whole day and my civilian "roles" weren't particularly good, basically, civilians were helping out one side or the other for most games, making the sides very uneven and the outcome inevitable. Very slow to start in the morning and I thought lunch would go on forever! (Although the food was nice).
Still managed to have a good time though. The standard of play was good, as was the sportsmanship. Good social too. It's just a shame about the site and the PBI format of the games, which didn't really work and failed to tell a "story" in my opinion.

Well, first thing - the punters were smiling and happy at the end. Everyone seemed to have a tale of achievement to tell, so not a disaster by any means. Sunny day, no wind (remember Eagles) and good standard of play from all.
As I thought, Beds hasn't really grasped Gadge's 'tree' thing with one game depending on and following on from the previous. Each game had different objectives and the plan to start everyone from the same 'rally point' all day was silly - it took no account of what the situation was at the end of he last game.
The only linking narrative through the whole day was my role as a nuclear scientist as had different captors depending on who I escaped from/who captured me. And I have to say I had a really good day, thoroughly enjoyed the role playing and being a really sneaky git. Both side hated me by the end of the day, which was nice.
Partisan thing was pointless to a large degree and didn't add much or make any difference to the game play. That said, I think they mostly had a good time but, as at Lightning, they were all regarded with suspicion by both sides the whole of the day and therefore no one made much attempt to make good use of them.
And trying to run three sides was silly for someone's first game - an unnecessary complication.
For a first game - pretty good effort. Esp. compared with Stiener/Blume's Haggard disaster.
I really enjoyed the games, and have never seen such a high standard of gameplay or ham acting

My nomination for best ham acting would be Lipton - on discovering Ranj (I think it was) dead, pretending to pound his body in frustration, rage and helplessness!
So, about as 'milsim' as PBI events then.......
Pete, what was Harborne Blue like?

Milsim it certainly was not. As C-W said though, there were people smiling at the end of the day, which is what it's all about. The game certainly didn't take itself as seriously as Lightning or St.Lo did and Yith did as he was told as well, which was good. My Bro executed him when he was laying down, calling for a medic!
Harborne was actually ok, as was his brother, to my surprise! He's a pretty big bloke, so he found some of the undergrowth hard going but, he played to his character slips and didn't act like a cock.

I assumed HB was an 18 or 19 for some reason! Also Sly looks nothing like his avatar - I had no idea who he was until we were packing up.
Heh, players were very lax at guarding - we might use this as a module for our training event!
I killed Ranj by stabbing him in the back with a shard of glass I found on the ground, killed Craig with his own rifle and killed Ranj again with a pistol concealed in my briefcase (I was asked on three occasions during the day if they could search it but I just said no, it contained important papers. They accepted my word and didn't pursue the matter!)
I was tied up at one point and told the guard my middle name was Houdini. He didn't know who Houdini was but found out five seconds later when my hand were free and we sprung the guards. Also at one point we ended up with seven prisoners being guarded by two guards - needless to say there was a mass breakout. I also got away at one point by chucking water over the guard - he was furious his costume got wet
.
When held in their HQ by two guards we idly chatted for 20 minutes which meant their attention was lost and they didn't hear my rescuers entering form the back of the building until it was too late. They were thrown into confusion not knowing whether to point guns at me or the attackers. Very funny watching them shit themselves!

Names please.
It was funny when C-W made another break for it, towards myself, Stu and Lardy. Tug Wilson came after him yelling "stand still!", thinking he was out of range of our guns. I promptly shot him in the neck and C-W made good his escape. Then we legged it and I told Stu to do a snap ambush from the bushes. As we ran away with our prized nuclear scientist, I heard a long burst of fire and several screams of "medic!" , as Stu gunned down the yanks trying to give chase to us! No tactical awareness whatsoever!
The Germans did display some very good tactics though and steamrolled the yanks several times, to the point that the civvies ended up playing for the yanks quite a bit, so they could "win" a bit.
