A short while ago, after I proposed the Hess game to you both at Craig's game I asked Pete what he thought about re-starting CiA. The gist of the reply was that he thought CiA had garnered so much negativity in the community that he didn't think it would be a go-er. I thought otherwise but left it at that, particularly in the light of my Dad falling ill and dying and me being too short of time this year (and my Grandma has just died too, funeral week after next - that's two estates I'm sorting out now as well as keeping my mum on the rails!). However, this will settle down next year and I'll have some free time back.
And then came Barrie's nice PM and Pete said how nice it was to e appreciated and perhaps there was some mileage in resurrecting CIA.
Well, I leapt at the change of heart and I really think we could make a fist of it. The regulars weren't stupid - they knew what was cracking off and they understood. The non-regulars were none the wiser either way. The old school were sad an era had passed, the newbies haven't a clue what CiA was anyway. What I'm saying is that there was no great harm done and we can pick up where we left off, feet running.
What I have suggested is that we have a core of us three, with maybe adding helpers for specific games, if needed, on a non-executive basis. And that we drop the 'encouraging new players to ww2 games' thing and 'inclusivity' and get back to organising game WE want to play. As Craig is doing now. Our rules - don't like 'em, don't play. Not necessarily concentrating on kit (even after all this time we have to be pragmatic and practical) but definitely on attitude and mindset. All are welcome so it's not elitist but only book if you get the concept!
Will things be the same as before? No, it can't be. But without all the shite it could well be better, in many ways...
I know players would love another of Pete's training days/weekends, I've got the "Z" game already planned out. Another event and that's plenty for the year! Concentrate on detail but ease off on the pressure, just do what feels right. If it's only two events a year, fine. Four events, fine. As long as we give 100% effort they will be crackers.
I'm motivated. I know the punters would rejoice at CiA coming back from the dead (more like a regrouping after a break). I think 2013 is the time to do it.
Oh, and I don't think we are here to financially subsidise other player's entertainment - game fees should cover all expenses (although I do recognise that there may be some limitations to this, I don't want to get too hung up about it).
Pet has said he is in - please tell me you are in Stephen?
Yeah, why not? (Though I do want to do some of the Wild West airsoft next year too).
Perhaps talk more after September as I'm flat out between now and then.
Woot!
Can't we persuade you to go to Craig's game on the 29th Sept? I have spare webbing, BD trouser and an M14 that will take Craig's shotgun mags.
I'd love to but it's the first weekend off that I will have had since July and I'd like to spend it at home! I'll be at the November Bastogne game though.
One thing, let's just keep any resurrection to game organising. I can't be arsed with membership scheme and stuff like that.
No worries.
Agree on membership - not really appropriate or meaningful any more and in any case it puts an obligation on us to maintain a game flow, which adds to pressure not reduces it!
