Yay. So, shall we use this as a prequel to the Hut 9 event and cover things that escapees in particular might find useful? That and include stuff as before for a broader appeal?

As I said elsewhere I quite like the idea of a noon to noon event so that chaps can travel Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon to avoid having to travel late on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Can cover sleeping arrangements (hammocks/bashas/pups) and put them into practice without the stress of a game. Also allows for a social Sat night which will add to it being an 'event' rather than an exercise.

Having looked at my diary for 2013, with my nights and family commitments, how does the weekend of March 2nd/3rd sound to you guys?

I've not given any thought to a site to be honest. I'd prefer not to have to work around paintballers, so, another site might be better.

I could talk to Ed about one of his sites perhaps. Keep it simple. Though they are all quite remote.

I'll check at home but dates should be OK.

We could use Phoenix's new site at Welbeck woods next to Welbeck colliery. Not a paintball site and never had a WW2 game there (but Gadge said he was talking to Grogan the other day at a Nottingham Uni Airsofter's meeting and Dave offered his site to Gadge - so would be nice to get in there first!)

The site was used to park tanks in WW2 under the tree cover - the tank stands are still there. They have build bunkers and sangars since I was last there and have toilets and water on site now.

That site looks interesting. Nice location too, travelwise, for the punters.

Good stuff. Now we're agreed on a date, we just need to sort a site then. What was that close action one? If I recall, it was an old WW2 base? That, or the Phoenix one would be good, just so we visit a new site.

For the training, I thought to cover...

Hide/shelter construction.
Movement/concealment.
RV's and laying up.
Basic map reading (bearings, pacing, map orientation).
Dead letter drops/caches.
Preparedness/personal admin.
Ambush/breaking contact.

As cqb/jungle laning was so popular, it wouldn't be hard to squeeze that in, along with any other subjects you guys may think relevant.

The CA one is near Kettering. It's a good site with woodland, open fields and hedgerows. Nice and easy to get to too.

Got a reply:

Hi Stephen,
that weekend we have a Sunday game, which you would be welcome to participate in, or even do your own thing if you preferred. We would have to come and let you in on the evening before, then lock the gate again (doggers etc!) We could do that for a nominal fee of £25/head , as we already have a game going on that will cover the site rental. Alternatively, there are the weekends either side. However, due to rental costs etc. we would have to charge our full fee of £500 for 24 hours exclusive use, depending on likely numbers.

regards,
Chris

Sounds like a goer then!

Mmmnn, the site looks interesting. Need to make use of those trenches and buildings!

Is the suggestion that we use part of the site while an open day is running? I would like to try for a 12 noon to 12 noon thing if we can, for ease of travelling as well as making it 'worthwhile' to travel a distance plus making use of a decent social.

That site looks FAR too good for just a training day! And, at the price quoted, it might make more sense to run an actual event there! Dare I use the "S" word for a Gumrak airfield scenario?

Yes, they're suggesting we run it alongside their event to make it easier and cheaper for us. The site's big enough for that.

How about a training day for a taster then a bigger event their later in the year, or in 2014?

Well, we could use a training day as an excuse for a site recce on the side, 2 birds with 1 stone sort of thing. Certainly saves on fuel!

Had this reply from Chris:

Hi Stephen.
I can assure you we won't be running any such event. Tony has not discussed this with me at all. It is not his decision to make anyway.

So, we're on. But that means we need to announce soon.
