If I can find a spare £100 I might get an M41, wool trousers and gaiters. Roughouts can wait for a while. My existing webbing should be fine.....

This is a big IF though!

Guys, I know I'm not anything to do with the Yank side of things but if I can be of any help with regards to training days, please let me know.

If the U.S side moves away from the endless and tiresome 101st loadouts we've been inundated with, I may even be tempted to do the "Big Red One" myself sometime in the future. Anyway, I wish you all luck with it and echo the comments about leadership of the group, someone needs to get a good grip of it and move it forward. :good:-- attachment is not available --

When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!

Those certainly look like they're trying to be the right ones the features mentioned are correct. The colour does seem a bit pale, but that might just be the photo.

Link to both patches. you can see the difference. the top one is the correct colour.

Sorry guys, haven't been online much lately, (curse work and family!), - so have missed out on all this thread until now.

Yeah - I agree colour's not bad, but the stitch counter in me thinks the top patch looks like it may be a post war one as the WWII patches were all non-merrowed edge or embroidered on to a piece of cloth so that you soon had frayed edges (like your second example) - If you're not too bothered about that then let me know, as I have got about a dozen or so post-war BR1 patches which I can let you have for a quid plus postage; basically what I payed for them as a dealers lot on ebay as my kids wanted Red One badges on their jackets!

Can I say that I'm chuffed to bits with where this journey is taking us, for as an ex re-enactor nearly all my kit is Big Red One already, and I'd echo all thoughts of standardising our 'look' - If only because I'm pants at sewing so rebadging is a real chore!

Also locally the Red One is big news as Dorset is where they were stationed and embarked from for D-Day - so I'm active with my jeep at a number of events.

Webby is King on this and I bow to his and Steve's experience - I'd love to play a more active part in this reinvigoration - although I'm a little constrained by work, (or currently a complete lack of it!), a very non-plussed missus (who thinks I should grow up), and also location as I believe it's only me and Steiner that live Down Sarf? At the very least I may be able to advise on Loadouts, etc - although grunt is grunt!

I think I've got a couple of 82nd patches - so will do glider riders if duty calls...

Fantastic and let's keep up the momentum - Matt, put that woman down and lead from the front man!

I think that's part of the problem, he's been 'leading from the front' for the past couple of months..... Still, at least he'll fit right in with the 'Big Red One'.
