WPG sell them... as do SOF (probably WPGs)

I've seen them at fairs as well... they're much more expensive than a pup tent though and DO LEAK.

You need the half itself, some pegs, a folding pole and some rope.

Two lots needed to make a tent.

Are period tents waterproof? Dont wanna be getting soaked in your sleeping bag. As you say Yith the shelter halves do.

Period tents are canvas. They are not generally waterproofed. However when wet they do not drip inside. Just remember not to touch the inside when they are wet on the outside and you'll be fine.

You can apply modern waterproofing to them if you want though and this will help.

Shelter halves however have a design problem. They button up along the ridge line and this means there's a place for water to get in. And it will do.

I have slept (er well tried to) under in shelter half tent once and it was okay. The problem I had was we had a guard on all night that talked all night and kept me awake all night.

Funnily enough CiA will be doing a 'How to' feature on period-ish camping sometime soon (well, as soon as Jay sorts it - well before and in preparation of our July game).

I have two shelter halves that are buttoned together that have NEVER leaked. There is a line of double buttons with about a 4" overlap which makes them water tight. Stick your helmet over the pole hole and hey presto, dry as anything.

Canvas swells when it gets wet and the water doesn't get through. Put some Fabsil on and you're laughing.

As I said before these tents are VERY warm and dry and look the business. They'll sleep two people head to toe and leave space for kit too.

Also they are CHEAPER than a modern tent, so shouldn't put anyone off. If anyone HAS to have a modern tent, we'll likely ask them to pitch up away from the period stuff.

What would be great is if we could have a camping area that is entirely period in look. No plastic bags, no nylon gun cases, no plastic chairs. It's easier than you think.

Marsha - Whatever you have beyond that is entirely up to you, although a decent sleeping bag and roll mat are musts.

Though for the money for that tent, SoF have

Back in stock The Pup tent is made from two green canvas shelter halves which clip together making a small tent. Includes two shelter halves, metal pegs and poles. New Unissued condition You can upgrade this tent to a WW2 type with wooden pegs AG148
£29.99

The Pegas are £12.99 so, unless I am missing something like a total fool, this split between two people (one half each) would be £21.50 each.

Just a-thinkin'

I think those ones are post-war, craig. They look like they fasten up at both ends.

WPGs work out at £95 for a pair shipped, yikes!

Ah... I'm a bit wrong.

Dark Green (OD7) ones with closed ends are late war, not post war.

Not sure about the metal poles though!

Don't worry about pegs and poles! As long as it's khaki or OD and ridge-shaped it'll be fine.

Orange dome tents are for Glasto......
