Massive variety of kit including one lad in a regular army pattern helmet.

Very late war you see them using FD camo jackets as well....

im not entirely sure they are all fj in that vid i think its a composite of several staged attacks.

one guy has army collar dogs on his tunic.

But for propaganda purposes the guys at home would not have noticed i imagine.

Another good FJ vid :)

The traditional german helmet was worn by some FJ in the early part of the war, and there is a nice pic in the MAA German airborne troops book showing a section in Normandy in `44, the NCO is wearing the normal lid. There`s also a well known pic of some of the chaps who took Eben Emael who have the army breast eagle on their smocks instead of the Luft version.

Mind you, there are also the M36 and M37 pattern FJ lids. Easy way to spot them is that the M36 has 4 slots in the rim, the M37 has 2. Both are now rare as the proverbial rocking horse shit and go for truly *silly* prices when they do come up for sale.

Its not all FJ...there are a ton of SS men in that video.

As far as regular helmets on FJ...it happened. But its unlikely for Normandy - the 6th FJR (commanded by Von der Heydte) were the last fully jump qualified FJR, and as a result they were all equipped with basically the same thing.

AFAIK, the video is not staged - but it is a propaganda video.

That second video is actually a reenactment (for propaganda purposes again) of the German invasion of the Netherlands.

Here`s the pic of the FJ section in Normandy in `44. Its a nice study of these chaps in a break from combat.
2 chaps with army helmets.. green smocks.. grenade bag.. late war entrenching tool.. and captured bren gun. :)

Slicks vid certainly demonstrates just how uncontrolled FJ parachutes were. :?

Do you know what unit those guys are? Its entirely possible they arent 6FJR, and are 2FJR who fought in the defence of Brest (now THAT would be a cool battle to do).

The photo is listed as in Normandy in 1944, no unit info I`m afraid, Brest is in Brittany I believe? :)

It is.

But there were plenty of other FJ units in Normandy besides 6FJR.

Cool read for any interested: http://web.archive.org/web/200605240547 ... rmandy.htm

Might that not be a ZB26, or am I missing an obvious identifying feature?

Nah, Zb has some pretty obvious differences. Much longer gas system, finned barrel, and the mags dont have the curvature of the Bren, as the Zb used the 7.92 Mauser round.

The only pics i've seen of the Zb being used by germans was by Waffen SS.
