Surely, for WW2 era, it'd be the Hertfordshire Regiment?
The Beds and Herts were originally just the Bedfordshire Regiment, but had requested the name change due to the large number of Hertfordshire men which had been drafted into the regiment.

A few years back, a game organised on this forum had the Herts as the British contingent, so many people here, which may also be local, may still have the relevant insignia.

Yeah just re-checked it and it is The Hertfordshire regiment so my boo boo and hopefully there are some of them that are still hanging about on here as it will be good to hear back from them and we can get the ball rolling and get a new unit up and running.

:D

Is it not either? Weren't Beds and Herts regulars and Herts Territorials? Anyway I've got Herts shoulder titles and cap badge. And more than happy to get Beds and Herts.

Cheers

Yeah the Herts where a TA unit and its headquarters was based in Hertford but they where attached to the beds regiment. So either Herts and Beds insignia or the Herts insignia can be worn

I'm sorry I'm going to be pedantic but I think they are virtually completely separate entities, particularly during either of the World Wars. I think there were inevitable logistical associations and with Territorial reforms attachments, and the Hertfordshire Regiment evolved out of the Bedfordshire Regiment etc., but to put it simply if you were to turn up to 1st Battalion Hertfordshire Regiment in Italy in 1944 wearing Beds and Herts insignia would they not only question that but also why you are wearing Jungle Greens and are not out in Burma being a Chindit with the rest of 1st Battalion Beds and Herts?

As an aside Bedfordshire Home Guard wore the Beds and Herts Cap Badge while Hertfordshire wore that of the Hertfordshire Regiment. HTS 8 - 8th Hertfordshire Battalion were my local unit in Croxley Green.

I am of course happy to do either and Ox & Bucks which is my other local regiment, or Middlesex, or... In fact I am happy to do anything, any excuse for a new badge.

Cheers

Charlie

As an aside, I've got an old trunk which is stenciled as an officer in the Beds and Herts bound for India I assume.
