Doesn't sound like British Army issue! 
I have a small skewer hidden in the collar of my jumping jacket, and a razorblade in my gaiter, as well as my knife.
Asda do a nice khaki-brown/'cap comforter brown' machine washable wool V-neck for just £8. I have bought one already and think it looks suitably period.
I can't seem to find my colour, only the other colours I saw in the shop and thought might be colour contenders before I chose my one - mine' quite similar to the 'brown mix' coloured one on the M&S website.
Anyway, to get the idea, here's the khaki green one:
