Alte Hasen (German soldiers slang “Old hares†or veterans)
Some of you will have seen my post regarding reviving the Landser, having spoken to several people I have decided to try and form a German airsoft group open to anyone who attends events and can do a German impression. As many of us do several impressions I think it best not to limit it to a single impression-Heer (Landser), although that is my favorite. Instead the idea is that members can discuss on the forum which impression to use at a particular event and we all make an attempt to achieve a “unit look†accordingly.
Of the 10 people who have so far shown an interest, 3 attend the majority of events, 5 attend several events a year and 2 are newcomers who whish to participate. So although initial interest is small my hope is that it will inspire others to participate and anyway given these numbers we should be able to put together a 6 strong squad for many events which should be enough to start. I should point out that this group is only open to people who attend events or who are getting their kit together and plan to attend, armchair members will really not serve a purpose, its all about getting out there and doing it as a German squad.
Sgt Heide has kindly offered to do a training day if there is sufficient interest, however as numbers are currently low I do not wish to waste his time organising this if interest fizzles out (especially after the disapointment with CIA), therefore I hope to get things underway in a low key fashion and if it attracts enough interest then a training day may be on the cards.
The plan therefore is to introduce commands, drill and unit tactics in a small scale way gradually adding to our repoitoire. Training will therefor be carried out at whatever spare time we have at events. I will produce a handbook for the unit which will grow and evolve as the unit does.
As far as unit command is concerned this will have to be negotiated with game organisers as often command is done by them, however where this is necessary we can hopefully appoint a assistant squad leader to relay commands. On the point of command I should point out that this group is not an attempt on my part to take command of anything but rather a desire to achieve a more immersive experience, my own suggestion is that where we are able to command ourselves squad leader roles should be rotated amongst anyone willing to take the responsibility, commanding a squad in itself adds a new dimension to the game and I would recommend all try it when they have the opportunity.
The objective will be to:
1.Form up in ranks
2.March a short distance to the breifing area
3.Carry out a basic weapons drill, shoulder arms, present arms etc.
4.Following the breifing work as a squad together developing tactics and usings German commands gradually adding to our repotoire.
Hopefully as well as enabling us to operate as a squad (team) effectively on the battlefeild, this will also help us get into the mindset of a German soldier.
I would like to start this at either Josh's “Greenback game†or Wladeks “Eagles game†depending on planned attendance. This will give me time to get the initial handbook ready and members time to learn the few words of German that will be necessary for our first outing.
I would therefore be gratefull if all those that are interested post up which events they plan to attend so a decision can be made, It may even be possible for Chommers to give us our own group slot on the forum where all things “Alte Hasen†can be discussed.
