Now I want everyone to read this with an open mind here.
It obviously started with my plan to play as a german when I am able to attend a ww2 game.
I just had my stag do last night, and in the run up to the event we were going over costume ideas and it was suggested I wear a Helmet.
So searching for something I wouldn't cry over if it got lost, I came across this on amazon:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pams-German-Helmet/dp/B00168WVC0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1337542880&sr=8-1
For a tenner posted I thought "what the hell" and went for it.
Well its actually pretty reasonable quality for that price!
Although its flexible, its very light, comfortable and absorbs BB impacts pretty well.
Bit of paint and a transfer set and it might pass muster from a viewers distance.
Didn't even wear it on the stag do in the end. Had to wear a baywatch costume...
My advice get a cheap splinter pattern cover for it and it will be fine
Will do
its the right shape , and yes, a cover, or a slap of paint and it will be fine for 99% of events
( BUT STAG DO! this means marriage, and take it from me, marriage and airsoft events dont tend to go together to well, it is do-able but tricky )

Its ok, I'm actually marrying the best woman in the world.
She plays airsoft, loves classic cars and puts up with me running round the house in that new helmet yelling: SCHNELL!!!
With a cheap helmet cover who would know..
When is the big day? Can we toast you next weekend at the Corridor of death..?

Is it full size though?
I think back to the ones made for the eropean cup that had no liners.
Free speech is expensive these days!
Yes that is the biggest problem I would expect. Although it might looks passible from a distance under a cover, with no liner or chin strap it will soon get on your nerves when it keeps falling off or droping over your eyes.
Its got a kind of elastic net inside held on with the silver rivets and also a chin strap.
It sits with an air gap all around my head so its cool inside, and it doesn't wobble badly when I run about.
Not sure what the weight of a cover would do to its handling, but it seems like its fairly full size, although I've not worn a real one yet to compare.
As to toasting, I'd love you to toast but I'm afraid due to pre-wedding appointments next weekend (wedding on the 2nd June!) I cannot make it to the game
Aiming instead for the 14th July game.
I'm sure I'll be "allowed" to attend after the honeymoon I've booked for us...
I had one of those plastic ones, the elastic inner strap thing keeps it on your head fine.
The rim is slightly smaller than my steel one (but iirc they came in different shell sizes anyway). I sprayed it field grey and it looked fine, even better with a cover of course
Cheers

Where is a good place to get field grey spray paint by the way? I can only seem to find the small 100ml cans by tamiya.
When you say "field grey", do you mean the colour used for gas mask tins, helmets, etc? It's code is RAL6006. Try on ebay or www.richardaunderwood.com . You can get it made up at Halfords, but you need it to be "eggshell" in finish - i.e. not quite matt - and Halfords only do hi-gloss!
You've got nothing to ein, zwei, drei, vier
I do indeed and thank you very much

I use B and Q tester pots they make up all RAL colours
