As per the tittle does anybody know anything about gebirgsjäger Styrian gaiters? Ive seen pictures of SS gebirgsjäger wearing them, did Heer wear them as well. Also what would be the deciding factor on what type of gaiters/putees were worn?

Cheers for any help

Generally speaking I believe they were private purchase officer things, not issued as far as I can tell anyway. Enlisted men and frankly just about everybody wore puttees (with buckles, see the stuff in the Battle of Crete thread as that nice Mr Conrad Uno has had some buckles made up which he will probably be looking to sell to the discerning gebrigsjager around here). Some officers wore very long puttees which were not standard issue (General Dietl for instance is generally seen in puttees up to his knees). Germans don't call them puttees but I can never remember how to spell it.
