My dad has been harping on about some stuff he got in Germany called Flotzer's universial leather balsam so I thought it'd give it a try on some of my boots/kit. Its beeswax based but I don't know what else is in it, just have to rub it on with a sponge. It seems to work quite well anyway, softens up old leather quite well and is of course water proof.

Thread necromancy,
I brought a pair of firemans boots on this forum recently hoping they would do as jackboots. They are very comfy but have absolutely zero grip, after going on my arse for the third time in a row, much to the amusement of my fellow airsofters, I took them to a local cobbler who doesnt have hobnails but said if I get some, he'd bang them in. So first question does anybody know where I can buy sets of hobnails and the heel horse shoe type things?
Second thing, is it an official sign of WW2 airsoft addiction when you start selling off modern kit to fund WW2 kit? I've just put my full set of blacks up for sale to fund a new pair of low boots. I'd rather have the correct foot ware for WW2 than look like an extra from "Ultimate Farce" :D

Hobnails and heel irons come up on eBay quite often. That's where I got mine. You can also get the toe plates on there too :) just make sure the hobnails you get have what look like barbs/spear heads on them as once knocked in they hold in better than the straight spike ones.

Also I bought a cobblers last for about a tenner on there incl postage so I replace my own now rather than taking them to a cobbler. Pin head hammer comes in handy too ;)

Thanks mate, I had a look on Ebay last night and didn't know hobnail was a type of pottery :)
The only ones I could find didnt look anything like what I want, it's just a matter of checking from time to time and see what's on offer.

try putting in german hobnails and in advanced search try worldwide available to UK. That brings up more boot ones and less ceramic crap ;)

I put hobnails on hold and sold another modern gun and splashed out on a new pair of low boots from militaria net. I followed Kermits instructions and put dark tan on the boots. It darkened the suede but the heels still look like spats! I waited a day then gave the whole boot of dubbin after which it was pretty saturated. Wore them all dat today with no problems at all. I was just wondering if I can do anything to darken down the heels or should I even need to worry about it?
