My M1 helmet is actually an M48 Danish (1963 dated) one I got at Beltring in 2006 for a fiver... :)

I bought a few bits from SoF and made it a bit more WWII.

The liner still looks totally wrong though!-- attachment is not available ---- attachment is not available ---- attachment is not available ---- attachment is not available --

Well I'll probably see one at Stoneleigh this Sunday...

I considered getting one, but thought I'd leave it.

So far this lid has cost a massive £25... all in :)

They are pretty good but(on mine anyway)isnt the nape(neck strap)sewn on instead of held in place with press studs and also lacks the small studs to hold the leather liner chinstraps??

The BEST liners if you can still find them are the post war BELGIAN ones which are 99.9% the same as WW2 ones and require no modification at all other than removing the Belgian decal that is usualy on one side.

Early Nam liners are almost the same as WW2 and Korean liners-same strap configuration, made of brown colour fibre but the webbing material is of cotton web and not HBT like WW2 and Korean liners-also they dont have the small grommet hole at the front to hold the rank badge.

The later Vietnam era liners are cosmeticaly nothing at all like WW2 ones-some are made of the brown fibre material but most are made of a thicker orangy or green colour with a different configuration to the WW2 type and have a 3 point adjustable nape/neck strap.

Not sure what my helmet is, I picked up cheap at the war an peace show with some boots that look just like the US ones from some foreign blokes so im guessing its Dutch.

This is what it used to look like.

And after I did some work to make it look a bit more realistic from a distance, I plan to stick a helmet net on their so It looks a bit better, but im not realy bothered about the straps as US isnt my main focus atm eventualy il just replace the helmet all together but atm I think it does the job ok.

Another image of the back to add to the Shape debate, I think its slighley more curved at the bottom than US helmets and also the sides of the helmet are a bit shallower with less of a lip on the sides.

Looking at the chinstrap i would say the shell on yours is probably Austrain or Danish.

At the end of the day it doesnt realy matter what you wear i guess be it genuine WW2 or Nam or Nato as its basicaly an M1 and thats all that matters

The only helmet i would suggest people stay away from are the West German type which sort of resemble an M1 but are smaller and quite different

Taffpara - Troof.

Regarding the earlier statement about green liner. Not true. The high pressured liners (which look wooden) were used across all eras from WW2 to Nam, with the webbing changing over time.

Ah! Sorry. I wasn't being clear.

I was referring to :

Dev, I am going to venture that yours in a 'Nam era one. Simply because the fiber of the liner doesnt look like the wartime/Korea wood-ish color and is green. I think that postwar/Korean helmets have the brown liner but green webbing whereas Vietnam era helmets have both the liner and the webbing green.

Vietnam helmets also had the high pressure 'wood-ish' liner. They weren't all green plastic, as some are.
