By the time Market Garden and later on rolled around veterans could wear whatever they deemed to be the better kit, many kept their jumpboots when buckle boots were introduced, the soldiers seen wearing M42's any later than the start of Market Garden are probably veterans of Normandy who kept theirs. Was not uncommon for veterans to walk around the 101st Training area in Mourmelon covered in ammunition and grenades looking scary in front of the new recruits! Sited from to seperate sources...

here are some picture's that i've found on the net.
No nets tho, apart from the 1 guy at the back! hehe
that's because those were showing white helmet covers mate.
Now a 'namsofter. I have an M72 L.A.W. for sale for 110 posted, PM if interested.
We were talking about the nets though?
Pretty sure the guys in the bottom photo aren't wearing nets or helmet covers.
There's a real mixture here:
One thing though, I've never seen foliage entwined into the net, and very little hessian too after D-Day.
Edit - Not sure if that top image is original or reenactment though.
Perhaps they found that it didnt offer them much more concealment!

It is original. From what I know, it shows members of B Company, 401st Glider Infantry Regiment
They were really scraping the barrel with the guy in the middle at the bottom weren't they! No offence to the guy in the middle at the bottom of course!

Past Sunday we had our first WOII Skirm in Belgium.
Took this occasion to take of the flag of my 101st M42.
It was a great day with only WOII airsofters and I do hope to see more WOII skirms in Belgium.

Looking good! You desperately need to go and roll in some mud in that kit, looks great...but very clean!

HBT trousers are on the way, and i'm yet to attempt to play with my leggings. It will all be used this sunday in Drakelow tunnels so dirtying is coming this way. Im having the problem of massive amounts of material left on the straps (as you can see). I thought this was from the 'X' at the back being too high but its set as short as it can...its strange...im 5'10" so those straps (regular) could accomodate a giant! Also, does the helmet look ok? Sorted the headband etc but the tie up bit in the middle still doesn't feel...right. Does it look like it sits too low/high?
Cheers,
J.
Helmet rim should ideally sit just above your eyebrows, can't tell because of the black square. Adjust your sweatband and the green cotton string tightness in the liner until it sits in place. That should fix it.
As for your suspenders, the D rings should sit just below the line of your collar bone, so the thicker part sits over you shoulder. It should ideally cross in the centre of your back. If they are as short as they'll go, try and attach the suspenders at the back further apart, say 4-5 holes apart. This should bring the crossover point down, and bring the d rings at the front in line. If you have excess strap at the front, raise the buckles higher up (closer to the D rings) so that the material has a large distance to go down to the belt clip and back up.

I'll give it a fiddle but as far as i can tell thats what i first did. I skirmished in drakelow tunnels last sunday in the full kit and it was great. I think i'll be ditching the helmet however, it's not too awkward to be honest, it's just i have a small head so i look like a kid running around in the thing :p
Which brings my next question, would Rangers ever fight without their helmets. I know some UK sf units wore berets/comforters etc but were the US into doing that at all?
Just need to get me a rubber knife & holster, first aid pouch, mag bag and maybe a backpack now

No, not unless they'd lost it, and then they'd have been re-issued. You should be able to adjust the liner to fit. You might be missing the nape band which makes a massive difference to the fit.
Nope i have one. It seems to me that if i adjust the sweat band so it sits around like a headband (which im told is the correct place), the tie bit at the top needs to be really loose to fit my head. This means that my head its probably very close to the liner. I cannot find a guide anywhere to correct wearing of the things.
Finally got around of completing my 5th Ranger uniform but darn it was hot that day.
Thanks to my buddy Doyle/Kraut for the pictures.

Fantastic pics, only 1 comment is that you should move/spread out the rear straps of your suspenders on the belt

Haha yeah I know. I have other suspenders on my 101st/82nd load-out but they have been adjusted at the end of the game that day.
