When I found out I was coming I was going to come as 506th 101st of which I have a full uniform with all the webbing but then I was informed that I wouldn't be able to wear that because you didn't want any yanks. Is that right? I'm putting together a Brit uniform but it's not going to be anywhere near as detailed. Is there a choice or am could someone tell me which I'll be better wearing. I understand if theres only Brits but I've put a lot of effort in to the Yank uniform and would be a shame to not use it.

Brits only.

There were no Yanks at Arnhem. Simple.

Don't worry there will be events in the future where you can use your 101st stuff!

As the man said, we debated long and hard about this and fle that the only way to include Americans in this game would be to include the scope to the enitre market garden operation. . . clealry impractical.

And if we did US and UK airborne never met up (nor were intended to) so it sort of makes a mockery of trying to be vaguely historical.

We realise this meant a lot of players have had to get new outfits but most (as you are obviously intedning to do) have risen to the occasion and pulled out all the stops to get kit togehter.

Remember we have a 'counts as' rule your kit neednt be perfect.

If you have a pair of brown trousers I have a spair dennison and at a push a windproof commando smock and a few berets, and I think warren from shoot and scoot has some for hire as well, but you would have to ask him.

fair enough! however I would just like to point out the the 101 506th met with British Paras in the escape from Arnhem. They were the unit that rowed across the Rhine to rescue the Brits. Which is not to detract from the fact that British Paras are absolutely awe inspiring. You should hear some of the stories my Grandfather has about parachuting in to Normandy!

Alternatively you could be a member of the Dutch civilian/resistance contingent which may help to reduce costs of kit for you.

That's if we're still taking bookings for Dutch players....

I'm getting together a para uniform as we speak. That's not a problem. It was just the fact that I had an American uniform which is REALLY good and I wanted to show it off. I haven't got any webbing for the brit para uniform can't really afford to get all that too! It was 506th E Coy that rowed across the Rhine to save the Paras at Arnhem.

The actual link up relief was done by the Dorsets but they didnt get across in enough numbers to make a difference, the evacuation was also a commonwelath operation as far as my sources go.

I have two sources to state it was the 43rd infantry division, mainly Canadian and British Royal engineers manning 37 boats.

No mention of US troops in operation Berlin.

Whats your source chap?

I'm referring to Arnhem - tragedy of errors (Harclerode)
and

It never snows in September (Kershaw)

Not being funny just curious.

It is in Band of Brothers, but that was based on a book which was based on real life accounts. I know it seems a bit like oh the Americans saved the day again but...well in that case they actually did. So theres no need to be a pair of smart a**es is there...well I don't think so anyway.

Not been a smart arse mate, its just Arnhem is a battle honour for my regiment so i'm quite motivated by it.

We won 2 VCs at Arnhem, no other battlalion won 2 VCs in a single battle during WWII.

Bit of regimental pride as opposed to being a smart arse :)

The commandos came close, 1 comando and 1 atached for St nazier Gadge.

Most VC's won by asingle Btn. In the Battle that was awarded more VC's than any other in WW2.
