Glad to finally see this start to happen with the allies, if I can help in any way let me know, perhaps if we could get some good photo shoots done over the next couple of events, I could put a uniform and equipment guide together for you and have it sticky posted or something.

Thanks Stubble, I think a few of us are putting together a uniform and equipment guide like your German 1, see how they turn out!

Hey Guys,

This is just an outline of the minutes from the training day last weekend for those who unfortunately couldn't make it.

The day way broken down into 6 seminars if you like.

Camoflage and Concealment, Ambush, Patrolling, Hand Signals, Section Movement and Defending a fixed position.

For those who ran the exercises feel free to edit this if I have mis-understood in any way! :)

Thanks to Gadge, Stubblehopper and Sgt.Heide

Seminar 1: Camoflage and Concealment.
The art of concealing yourself, the eye is drawn to un-natural looking shapes and movement, so we were shown how to break up the outline of the head and shoulders to minimise the profile.

On the left is too little (infact nothing), in the middle is too much (too many different types of foliage in 1 area, plus I couldn't actually see any1), Anne's is just right, 1 or 2 types of foliage, and enough to break up the outline of the helmet.

Face paint, obviously not the "Hollywood Navy Seal" camo paint you see on films, but just enough to take the natural greasy sheen off your skin, dont forget the areas behind your ears and back of neck.

Seminar 2: Ambush
There are 2 types of ambush, formal ambush and snap ambush.

Formal ambush is where the ambush is planned, the ambush party has time to set the location and dig in, (usually setting claymores and mines etc) but for the purpose of airsoft, getting well positioned and waiting for the enemy.

Snap ambush is an ambush which is created by the section commander following a course of events in an engagment where the need for an quick ambush is required, it results in the ambush party falling back to a pre-determined position.

The ambush Party
Formal ambushes can consist of the following: In an 8 man section, there would be a rear guard, 2 left cut-offs, 2 right cut-offs, two searchers and a section commander.

Rear guard waits at the FRV, to cover any withdrawal and to protect the rear of the ambush party, the right and left cut-offs cover the flanks of the ambush, to stop the patroll from escaping to the flanks during the ambush.

RV and FRV
RV (Rendezvous point) and FRV (Fall-back Rendezvous point) are set by the section commander as points of reference where to meet up after the ambush and in the event of a snap ambush where to fall back to. The rear guard usually stays at the FRV to cover the withdrawal of the ambush part should it go FUBAR.

During a Formal Ambush, the section commander will lay his team out, with interconnecting fire arcs, so that there are no areas uncovered. Once the patrol reaches the pre-determined position the section commander calls "Rapid Fire" at which point the section opens fire at targets in their fire arc, not that of their other section members. Once the targets are dead, the section commander will call "Section Advance" to which the 2 searchers go to search the bodies for intel.
Searcher 1 trains their weapon on the "corps" whilst searcher 2 gets onto the back of the corps (if face down) and rolls them onto their side, using them as a shield against any nasties that the corps might be conceiling. Searcher 1 keeps their eye on the space uncovered by the corps, and in the event of any nasties then instructs searcher 2 to roll the corps back into its original position.
Once all of the corps have been checked for intel, the section will withdraw back to the RV point and then the section commander will decide what to do from there.
In the case of a snap ambush immediately after the formal ambush (picture a section coming to investigate what the firefight was) the ambush party retreats to the RV and resets the ambush, once completing/failing the ambush the call is made for them to retreat to the FRV, falling back in bounds to cover the withdrawal/retreat.

Seminar 3: Patrolling:

There are 2 types of patrol, a fighting patrol (1s given out with orders to cause havoc/destroy a patrol) and a recon patrol, whose orders are to go out and gather information, which is then used to iniciate the fighting patrol.

There are a number of formations used on patrols, column, staggered column, arrow head and extended line (amongst others) These are given by hand signals by the section commander which will be shown in seminar 4.

During the patrol, it is the job of each element in the patrol to watch their own fire arc as they move, and not to watch any1 elses so that nothing is missed. The point man looks to the front quarter, 2nd person left, 3rd person right and so on down the line. The person at the back will turn occasionally as they are moving to monitor the rear.

The section commander will check every so often that all members of the patroll are present, and its up to every individual to check that they aren't rattling, that they are not minus their magazine etc etc.

Counter ambush tactics are to fight your way through the ambush, going to the sides will make you open to the flank cut-offs, and running backwards means you're still in the firing arc of the ambushers.

The patrol can opt to withdraw if they feel that the patrol is about to be ambushed, or if they believe they can spring the ambush, to go ahead and fight through it.

Ill do the rest later on when I can sketch, plus I have work to do

Beers sound like a good idea.

Really I'm looking at making people feel like part of something, and belonging to some sort of division is the way forward. Like the Germans have their Heer and SS groups,.... rather than it just being 1 big group :)
