There are no 'owners'. We get jack shit out of it. We do it for the membership whilst living real lives at the same time. If you applied online and paid, you're a member and you are covered by the associations insurance. Simples. Cards are FUBAR at the minute, unless we stump up over a grand for a new machine, or wait until this one is fixed. All of the commitee are members on this and other forums, but few seem to contact us directly. Those who do get their problems sorted straight away. I have personally sorted out a dozen or so queries in the last month, plus verification of a members status with a RIF retailer. Got a problem? Drop me a line with your full name, when payment was made and your query, and I will help. If you don't, I can't.
Done and dusted, Adam. I think I covered everything you needed to know. Please contact me again if you need anything else.
Next customer please! Form an orderly queue
Yes, it's terrible. We put in place something that helps others to be cheaply insured against third party claims and to enable them to legally buy RIFs in the post VCR Act world. We get nothing out of it, but have put a lot in. We are getting nothing but grief at the moment, which is no fun. Got a problem? I will sort it for you.
Bryn (helpful person, never lied to anyone, sorts problems in a matter of hours, over and over again)
It's been an incredibly frustrating time for us all, Rich, and I do understand the frustrations. The card printer manufacturer has been a real PITA over warranty, and the card use to be sent out immediately, which meant people knew they were covered. The card also had the phone contacts for VCR purposes on the back, which made it easy to prove a defence by sending a copy of the insurance document (from the AFRA home page) and those numbers to a retailer or customs. A meeting was held earlier this month, and we are working on an automated email being sent out with a certificate of membership, but this is being done by our IT chap in between doing his full time job. If it's any consolation, (not much, I know), my card went missing so even I don't have one at the minute
If anyone needs the contact numbers to verify their membership, be it for a retailer or site owner/event organiser, please don't hesitate to contact me. In this technological age I can verify membership to those people on the fly using my phone. Last call I got was from Action Hobbies and they were happy in a matter of minutes.
I don't read every post on here, so if anyone sees a post by a member with an AFRA query, ask them to PM me with their full name and query. That way I get an almost immediate push email on my phone and I can try to sort it.
