Numerous people have asked me about my flesh tone facemask. I have worn it at several games over the last year. Interest rose sharply in the aftermath of the Kolner Dom game. This was a CQB game in which full auto fire was permitted in an indoor environment. Please see the Kolner Dom thread for details and photos of the injuries sustained by players that participated.
My mask is the result of some time and experimentation. I found that the full facemasks, which are available, are too intrusive in my game play. They make you feel enclosed and blinkered and cause frequent misting problems on glasses and goggles. Another problem is that they stop your helmet from fitting comfortably on your head. For this reason my mask is designed to fit from the chin to the bridge of the nose and to fit as close as possible to the underside of your eye protection. I now know from experience that this pattern works best. When worn with a helmet or a hat it gives full-face protection but does not make you feel enclosed. I don’t have misting problems and my all round vision is not impaired at all.
As a result of some prompting from various people I have decided to offer flesh tone facemasks for sale. These will be made to order and I shall offer two types of mask.
Type 1. Flat flesh tone mask.
This will fool most people who view it from a distance and can be made at a lower cost as less man-hours are involved.
Type 2. A hand painted, realistic flesh tone mask that will closely match your individual instructions re design and appearance. You can send a good quality photo for me to match skin tone and you could opt for an unshaven look. How about a cigarette or cigar? You could even go for the Action Man scar! The choice is yours. Mustaches and beards are something that I would have to experiment with and there would be an extra cost involved but they should be possible.
(Please note: the following represents my own opinion only. It is not an invitation to enter into a debate about facemasks. Please do not post comments on here, whether you agree with me or not.)
WHY wear a facemask?
So long as you are not underage you don’t have to. In a lot of woodland games the need for face protection isn’t so great, though I personally believe in “better safe than sorryâ€. However in CQB games I feel wearing some form of face protection is simple common sense. Recent experience has already shown this to be the case. There are other options of course. The modern looking airsoft mask or Darth Vadar mask as it is oft referred to. To my mind this sort of mask has no place in WW2 games. It spoils your entire look. When you think about how much money you have spent on your uniform and equipment, I think it a shame to go and ruin your WW2 impression by wearing a Darth Vadar mask.
Gum shields. These are the preferred option for some. However these interfere with my ability to speak and be understood correctly. I also don’t like having to take it out and then replace it several times throughout the day whilst in the field and the ensuing hygiene issues that can be incurred. In addition someone that was wearing a gum shield recently suffered dental damage from a BB hit at the very moment he took his out to speak. Unlucky, I know but also very expensive. With the realistic looking flesh tone facemask you have comfortable full-face protection and you are not spoiling your WW2 impression or the immersion of others.
I will do the type 1 mask for £20 plus P+P.
I will do the type 2 mask for £40 plus P+P.
Here are some pictures of me in my mask. As you can see it is quite difficult to tell that I am wearing a mask at all. This mask is the Type 2 hand painted quality. I do intend to take some close up pictures also to show the quality of the paint job. I'll post them soon.
Scrim nets and scarves look ok on the modern infantryman but they are not really right for the WW2 soldier.
Please PM me if you would like to order a mask or if you have any questions.
Thanks for looking.

On a lighter note here are a couple of photos. One taken before I became involved with Airsoft and one after a CQB game in which I wore no protection:

these really are good, you have to be less than 15 feet away to be sure it's a mask .i'm all for realism(and don't wear a mask) but when effort of this sort is put into it the results pay off .
is there a non smoking option?

a problem shared is a problem halved ,but an advantage shared is no advantage at all
if a job's not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well
This is a great idea. A question though: what is the mask made of? Some sort of hard rubber? Could you possibly post a pic of the mask itself?

Here's a close up of the mask. It's made of a light weight hard plastic.
This one is shaped to match my shooting glasses. Your mask can be made to match your eye protection. The almost invisible glasses are the best option. Big bulky goggles with thick rubber frames kinda defeat the object.
The cigarette and the action man scar are optional.

Sir, you are a genius. This is awesome and I will definitely want one.
I assume the mouth slit is narrower than 6mm, right?

Yes that's correct. The mouth slit is 3mm.
The nostrils are actually 8mm, however this helps with good air flow therefore no misting of glasses.
In the whole time that I have been using the mask I've never had a BB up my nose. I recon for that to happen you would have to be looking up for enemy aircraft at the exact moment someone shot you. Even then, you would have to throw in a large dollup of bad luck.

do you have a picture of the type 1?
It will be exactly the same but with a flat flesh colour. There would be no shading or stubble or other detail.
It's these details that make the finished mask look more realistic. It's also these details that take time when painting.

Thought I would add this picture. It shows how the mask lines up to my eye protection and how it blends in more when a helmet is worn.
Hope this helps.

It may help to also specify the eye protection that is a best fit along with the mask.
I have made one recently so I can use it next weekend at the same site as we had all the trouble.
I actually got shot up the nostril on that day from a guy coming up a staircase but that was a fluke.
Glad you went ahead and did this mate
Free speech is expensive these days!
I'm not sure that we need to be brand specific with the glasses so long as the style and size are close. Having said that my glasses are a very good pairing with the face mask and I would recommend them.
It would also mean that I could form the mask using my glasses in the knowledge that yours will be an identical fit.
These are the ones I use.
PULSAFE. B-D 166 F 130mm
On the bridge piece they are stamped B-D 287+
My pair are quite old but I've just done a search and I think these are the ones.

They look like an exact copy of the Bollé Silium glasses. You can get the Bollé from Here: [link]http://www.thesafetysupplycompany.co.uk/p/1142219/bolle---silium-safety-spectacles---clear-anti-scratch-anti-fog-lens---en1661f-en170---bo-silpsi.html#.UW06L7U4tqU[/link] for £5.98
I have also recently brought one of these masks for the odd bit of CQB, it definitely the best way to go for full-face protection without ruining the look.
It's gonna look odd with a whole squad of peep using these though, like some kind of Clone army!
“I wanted to come to the Volga at a specific location at a specific city. By chance it carries the name of Stalin himself. So don’t think I marched there for this reason – it could carry another name – but because there is a very important goal... this goal I wanted to take – and you know – we are very modest, we have it already."

It is on your perseverance, staunchness, fighting skill and readiness to discharge your duty to the country that the defeat of the German-fascist army and the liberation of the Soviet land from the Hitlerite invaders depend! We can and must clear the Soviet land of Hitlerite vermin."

Thanks for that Boshman. They do look like virtually the same glasses. A good find.
Re clone army. I shall hopefully make a few individual features on each mask, I imagine at the owners request.
Cheers.

Your link seems the better option.
I only made a quick search earlier, there may be other suppliers out there.

Right I've done another search and found these:

These are the exact pair that I have got. These also have anti fog as well as anti scratch and this seems to be the best price around.
Check out your local branch and save on the shipping charge.

I'm using Guarder TMC G3 . It's not easy for me to switch as I've had prescription lenses fitted to the Guarder inserts.
Would accomodating Guarder glasses be an issue?

Hi Nurglitch.
PM sent.

Very nice mask, I made one of these myself actually although the quality is awful by comparison. Recently I've thought about cutting off the nose as I sometimes have trouble with the glasses steaming up, and also the nose is the part that most gives it away when I wear it, do you know how well that would work?
