Few guys? Surely there would only be 2 SMGs and 2 MGs?
That's sort of what I meant by a few guys.
Insert Something Witty and Profound.
ive just had one of those really obviouse idears,at ill giogo we were split into two sections,if both sides were split then one could sport predominantly smg's (fun for all and easy entry levol) and the other two sections faceing each other predominantly rifles with a couple of mg's as support.that way both sections would be faceing similarly equiped opposition or mix it up to make life hard when it should be.when booking you either opt for section one with smg's or section two rifles,no hop bother or range limit of spetial ammo.all you need do is ensure roughly equal numbers on opposeing sides and if you end up with too many mg's put them in with the smg's,too many rifles then put high power rifles in with the smg's as sharp shooters(on a vountary basis).might work and is a lot less technical.

if a job's not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well
Some interesting ideas... we are trying to push the boundaries at AGS events by reducing SMGs and rifles to 200 rounds per life. This should hopefully be tipping the balance more in favour of bolt action rifles - it would be difficult to even use 200 rounds with one of those.
You've got nothing to ein, zwei, drei, vier
To be fair if you want the real feel, go with real steal limits+5 rounds. A tommy with on 35rnds per mag will realy help bring the playing field level. I've run so many real steel games and the only add, never take away from the experience. Ask any of the guys that play Nam weekends

The main problem with that is that once it's 'game on', all the organisation and planning in the world goes to ratshit, sections end up where you don't want them to be, stragglers end up in the 'wrong' place etc etc etc. It'd work for about the first 15 minutes or so.
I have been very very seriously tempted towards a 100 round limit after a chat with John at Giogio.
Though I am still not convinced any plan accomplishes the desired effect other than saying 'rifles only', though there are some interesting ideas.

Sounds like a good idea!

Just keep it simple.
I think that is the main thing, loads of complicated rules and wierd hop restrictions is just going to mean no-one turns up. I'm certainly not putting crappy 0.12s through any of my guns either.
Requesting that people use rifles (be they bolties or semis) and setting very low ammo limits is the easiest way to go. 100 or even 200 rounds doesn't go very far with an SMG. The 200 round limit at Il Gigio worked really well, and I think it was the only airsoft game I've ever been to where the battle was mainly conducted by the MGs (as they had 2000 rounds!) - obviously having MGs on both sides helped quite a bit with that.

Completely agree on the lower ammo limits than setting HOP restrictions, as you've then got an onus on marshalls to stop SMG users every 10 mins and ask to check the HOP settings on their gun! That's in a game that use marshalls of course, if like at CIA games and players are running themselves it wouldnt be hard for people to break the 'Don't be a Cock' rule & whack up the hop!
some old stens dont have hop adjustment its fixed and a rule that stops a proper ww2 weapon that is so welcome would be a little topsyturvey,i second the verry low ammo limits as being easiest, ill giogo worked well with 200 rnd and i think i mentioned at the time that as an lmgunner in that game 3000rnds was unnesesary as i never lived long enough to use it so to all intents it was infinite and this weekend at rineland its down to 1500,lets see how it works.maybe the best we can do is ask in the booking thread for as many rifles as poss,or just try opening bookings for a rifle only game and see what happens, just plan it well in advance just in case ,i know ill book if i can make it.

well I will probably run my Polish Game next year as a rifles only I think, that is if there is room for it and all.
Along with Ammo limtis
prehaps give riflemen more bandages to represent more riflemen on the field?
like SMG one bandage

Sorry to keep saying the same thing, but I'm sure there's something to be said for keeping it simple. Honestly, you try to implement half the things which are being suggested, in game, and it would go to shit! No one would have a feckin clue what was going on!
Let people concentrate on having a good time without having to worry about how heavy their ammo is, how many bandages they've got left, whether they should be here or with the other section or up a tree, whether their hop is set properly or at all, whether a feckin marshall is going to come and ask to check your bloody hop setting (that'd really polish off the atmosphere wouldn't it!).
Surely the point of having an MG or an SMG is so that at a point, you can use it to your advantage, rather than penalising them for being the leader of the game. 300 rnds would be reasonable, you can't blaze away in a fire fight with that amount and could provide a tactical advantage when necessary. Same applies to MG teams, the point isn't to penalise them for using it, they are there for a reason.
Simple is best.

But, the point is that I have felt that the smg's are overly powerful and have far too much influence wher in the actual war they were much rarer. It's very frustrating when you face 6 or 7 smg's when you have a rifle. makes for a crap game. You sound like you just want a no rules blatfest so you can go off and play with your Thompsons...... I'd love a rifle only game, make people think. real tactics. Low ammo limits would really make things more interesting. I think it would be good. Be better. Especially with proper control over fps. I think a lot of the suggestions have been good and most people would be fine with them and iut wouldn't be any more difficult than current rules etc!

Their is such a preponderance of smg's they do dominate, and the range and accuracy is equivalent to most 350fps rifles. I'm not an airsofter, just done WW2, so maybe I have fresh eyes on the situation. Just had so many occasions where have been simply outgunned to such an extent that it gets rubbish, when up against 6 smg's with high rates of fire and as much ammo as me with my Garand and not much that I'm left to do about it. If I'm doing WW2 I don't want to feel like it's 'Nam or some awful modern warfare open day............................ Wladek's proposed rifle only game would be great (as his games usually are) and number aren't as important as you think, 12 to 15 a side is pretty good actually and coupled with low ammo and rifles would really make for a very interesting days play.
I find smg's dull after the first 10 minutes of splat splat splat.......

But its only 1 SMG per side Not really a valid point I don't think. Don't jump to conclusions especially regarding 'Open day tactics' there is a lot of difference between 1 SMG and 6 or 7. I ONLY do WW2 airsofting.

it's 'Nam or some awful modern warfare open day
Its more the players them selves who would make it feel like an Open day or nam
in my experience (granted its limited) WW2 events have a very differnt feel from Modern opendays even with people using mostly SMG's. but it would change the game a bit yes

Could just try and make everyone carry the equivalent weight of their ammo. You want to carry 1000 rounds of 7.92? You'd better be fit!
Average round weight 15g x 1000 = 15kg!!!

Wouldnt that allow SMG's to have more as Pistol rounds are smaller and probably lighter than Rifle rounds?
