To be honest with Empire and Commonwealth, take your pick.

The UK ordered a load that apparently arrived just after Dunkirk (along with an alleged French shipment that was impounded), certainly photos of Home guard with a few, several training photos

Examples on a quick google:

2nd photo claims to be in Tunisia?

The famous gas training photo (regular army this time)

Popular with raiding parties both naval and commando due to the extra ammo capacity of the drum (useful for suppressive fire in an enclosed area like you would find raiding a ship or a town)

A good un here,

Ignore the farby chap in the pinstripe suit though. :giggle:

Any US vehicle that was shipped prior to late 42 could have had one as part of the vehicles equipment. So any trucks or even Honey and Grant/Lee tanks (and their crew, tanks often had 1 or 2 for personal defense purposes so the crew were not defenseless in case of breakdowns, at a stop or even bail out situations). Certainly there are photos of Russians manning such vehicles pointing their drum magazine-ed tommys to the sky. I suppose what I mean is if they got lend lease upto mid 42, they would have got some.

I think I have a picture in a book somewhere of what looks like an Indian Army soldier with one (North Africa) guarding prisoners (Italian).

I have not seen photos of troops with a drum mag tommy gun in the pacific theater though. I have heard of the navy having them though.

To the tune of "Mademoiselle from Armentières"

Napoleons army ran away, As you do
The guard stood firm for Frances Pride, As you do
They said the guard will stand and die
But we heard what their Colonel cried
It wasn't pretty I tell you.

Resistance is fertile

My bosses father in law was a commando in the Med. He says they got Thompsons on issue from their formation as a unit. It was not until sometime in 1942 that they got any stick magazines. They only had the 50 round drums.
